Dont use Sachs "racing" clutch!!
Just fyi, dont use em. Broke mine in nice and easy, flywheel was stepped and machined. I just got a good tune at 23psi on my setup(current in profile) so you can speculate on the hp numbers im making. I dont know but i would think im north of 300whp for sure. Took it out after mafcomps last night and did one great 3rd gear pull, it spun tires around 70mph. That was the good part.
After leaving my friends i started a new capture in link and did another pull..... bad news. It slipped. I could smell it. Did one more for research purposes lol, today and it slipped again. Car is getting parked til new clutch comes in. edit:
clutch had about 1k miles on it. no beating on it til after 500 miles had passed
Ok, this is not a DD its a sunday car or a car i hop in to go to the gym 10 miles away. Itll get maybe 5k miles a year. Im thinking of a competition clutch stage 4 or 5. I dont care how "unstreetable" it is as i dont live in a city. I dont do a bunch of stop n go and even if i do i want a clutch that can handle 500whp if the day comes where i want to make that. Im surely going to see 400whp on pump with my setup and it buckled already at only 23psi. The 5858 can do alot more than 23psi.
So any suggestions?
Does flywheel need resurfacing? It only slipped a total of 2 times. Do i need to have it stepped for a different clutch? Flywheel was worked at the same time so it too has only 1k miles on it.

Sachs racing is just an eBay clutch, I wouldn't have expected it to even last 1k miles at anything over stock power.

Stock flywheel resurfaced and stepped by the machinist. I looked at the southbend endurance stage 2. That seems perfect for my use. Its rated at 400ft/lbs which is probably more than ill ever make. But competition looks good too. Should i get a new flywheel? If i do, should i go ahead and have everything balanced?
^^not ebay. Bought at oreillys. They are giving me a 100% refund on it, i called and asked.

South bends are well worth the money, I've used a few and have been very impressed with them.
Sachs is just a generic oem replacement, pretty common to see on eBay just like f1 racing.

Good one....... Yea, i looked em up and heard that srt4's use them so i though it could handle the power. I didnt blindly buy it. I shouldnt have cheaped out on a critical component i know. LESSON LEARNED. Just found them on ebay too, so yea it looks like theyre junk, just a bit more expensive junk. I dont really want an ACT, for the money i could get SBC or Comp and ive heard better of both.

That was my next stop. But i wanted feedback on other things. Ill give a full rundown on it after i pull and inspect it and leave an honest review. I dont want people to make the same stupid mistake is i did. I didnt cheap out on anything else but the clutch and sure enough, it bit me.

Im still on the fence: SBC or comp stage 4/5. I emailed SBC and told them about my needs and ill see what they say. They have less complaints than comp from google searches, but their PP's ive been reading, are not as strong as comp. I dont want to leave anything to chance and my budget is anything under 500 bucks. Dont know if its hearsay, but ive heard too many stories about ACT springs popping, but heard nothing but great things about their PP's. I want a kit i can put in, not piece together. I trust SBC's TOB, hell even the sachs TOB is fine, i might try and keep that if they let me and reuse it.

Here is a fun fact: South Bend uses Sachs heavy duty pressure plates for the DSM clutches. And Exedy hubs with custom friction surfaces. Yet they have been proven to hold well over 450ft/lbs and 500hp on their base line of clutch kits (SS TZ). Sachs is by no means a crap product, it seems to me you just chose a clutch that wasn't suited for your power goals. That's not the manufacturers fault.
I am personally running the SS TZ series with zero issues spiking to 20psi on a 16g. Extremely light pedal feel, great grab, and very decently priced. If you feel that you will need more than that, get one of the heavier versions or even a twin disk setup.

A very good example of why people should not label products as "eBay product". eBay is just a "virtual super market" where sellers and buys meet to do business. On the other hand, Companies like K-Mart and Target have products of their own (or they indorse products), in addition to their function as department stores.
MY QUESTION is, does anybody know the part number of the Sachs heavy duty pressure plate that SS is using? I am interested in a reliable PP of with 2200 - 2300 LB. Thanks

Afer taking it apart the sachs disc is fine. Looked to be of good quality. The TOB is oem quality from what i could tell at least. But the PP wasnt up to the task. Simple as that. I would recommend this clutch to anyone looking to make under 300hp, its fine. I jumped the gun a bit by throwing them under the bus... They are not bad clutches, just like wes pointed out, i chose the wrong clutch for my build.
Side note: The comp stage 4 is awesome! It is NOT for daily driving in city traffic. The PP is very heavy. I am very pleased with it so far

Why not add light flywheel?
Honestly... You're already going to be in there. Instead of spending money on machining spring for an ACT cro moly flywheel. Great product and can be used with any of the replacement clutches like Southbend etc. It really livens up the motor.
I run an ACT 2600 pressure plate with ACT unsprung 4 puck friction disc and street lite disc. I think it's fine for around town and heavy traffic. Feels just a little heavier than stock to me. just be certain you use an OEM TOB

i have the sachs clutch in my laser, it was bought out of nacessity due to being in hawaii and having to order parts from the mainland as they call it. my car has 289whp on the current tune and it seems to hold but i dont dare launch it, i recommend an ACT thats what im putting back in in a few weeks when i get it, the clutch is super easy to change on 1g dsm's, it only takes like 3 hours if you have a lift.

I have had the ACT 2600 for the past 10 years now, but lately I am getting tired of the pressure on my leg as the traffic jams continue to get worse down here. I need to go down to a 2300 / 2200 LB PPP and combine that with a Kevlar disc. I don't launch the car, so no need to kill my leg here. Beside, I am getting old .
If I buy Only the PP from say XTD, how will I know it is of the claimed 2200 LB, and not a repainted stoker?

Sachs in general is definitely a budget brand. I know of a couple of their VW clutches only to last 10k on the standard 2.0l. Those are a pain to change
