2G: painting valve cover letters

I got a valve cover from the junkyard and finally took time to sand her down and sprayed silver but I want the letters to be red. What would be the best way to do it or should I just make the Mitsubishi logo red and be done?

What I did was masked everything off and used an exacto-knife to cut out around the lettering. Then I just used high temperature paint. It's held up pretty well.

What I did with my front bumper emblem was first painted it red, then painted it black. Then I took a sanding block with 2000 grit sand paper and sanded the black off of the high spots. Being that you already painted the rest of the VC silver, you may be looking at masking off the letters and spraying them red.

Buddy of mine, sprayed the letters all red first, then took a small brush and applied grease the the letters (small amount) then sprayed the whole valve cover black. when it was all dry he just wiped the letters off, and obviously the black didnt stick to the grease, so red letters black cover!

Did the same thing with mine but with chapstick and a razor blade! my letters remained unpainted with a sanded, almost polished finish though, so i obviously wouldn't use the razorblade if you want the paint that's under there.

Several light coats of "Elmer's White School glue" Let dry then use a razor blade to trim any drips off.

next paint it the overall color you want.

Then once the paint is dry, a day or two later, rinse with water so the glue washes away

I am surprised nobody suggesting paint the letters with a Q-Tip. Or several Q-Tips. Worked for me.

Spray a sponge and dap at it , let it dry and repeate. Don't put to much paint on it or it will run.

I'm going to give that a shot on my next valve cover. I really didn't think about using a q-tip... Thanks for the tip!

Practice on something else first. When I first did it, my first letter turned out like ass. But you will quickly see how much paint you need on the Q-Tip and how often you need to change the Q-Tip with a new one.

i was just think of that..finding some high temp paint and just paint the lettering or if your gonna use a spray can maybe spray it into the cap and dip the brush into the cap

You deff did it backwards lol. Easiest way is to paint the letters first, after it dries coat te letters in vasaline, then paint the rest of the valve cover, wipe off the vasaline, and boom done.

Since you've already painted the valve cover the only options I can think of would be,
1-mask the valve cover with tape and cut the letters out with an exacto blade and paint, or
2- use a detailing paint brush and carefully repaint the letters
