Evo 8 dash in 1gb install.
ok, so assuming you have already removed the stock dash, step one is to measure approx. 2 inches back from where the evo dash meets the windshield, and "skin" the dash a little past this point.
Next, you want to carefully mark lines all the way across the dash, making sure it is exactly 2 inches from the front all the way across. After you make the mark, take a hack saw, saw-zall, angle grinder, or prison shank, and carefully cut the 2 inch section you marked off. Truthfully, a heated plastic cutter would be the best thing.
Don't fret if the cut is not 1000% perfect, you will see why it doesn't have to be soon enough. I didn't take pics of either one of these steps, because 1 im a little slow, 2 my phone died, and 3 it started to monsoon where I live last night and I had to quit. But if it makes everyone feel better, I did set the dash in the car before it started to storm, and it fit way better. I will also get pics with my high res camera, cause I finally found it among all the boxes while unpacking some stuff. If the weather permits, that is.

What device even takes a 175x143 res picture anymore? Maybe a cell phone from 10 years ago?
If you are looking to do a write-up, there is an appropriate section rather than the newbie section, FYI.

First off, no need to be a dick.
Second, yes it's an old ass camera phone, like I said I just found my actual camera boxed up with a bunch of random shit, cause I just got done moving.
And I know there is a write up section, just didn't think to post in there when I was writing up. Shoot me.
Mods, please move to appropriate section, as I am a failure apparently.

Hey, we should be getting a dash here in the next few weeks. Looking forward to following along. We have intentions of making the interior match that of an EVO VIII.

Hey everybody, I know it's been a long time, and everyone is wondering how this install is going, but im kind of on hold at the moment. My 2 month old son is in the hospital and the doctors have no clue whats wrong with him. On top of that, i come home to find out my refrigerator quit and all my food has gone bad. Fun week. But, I will accompany this sob story with a crappy picture from a good camera and a few thoughts.
I have come up with the idea to use both the stock radio cage, and the cage on the evo dash. The red circles are spots on the evo dash that are going to be used to bolt the two dash cages together. now my next thought is what would be the best route to go in making mounts? I have thought of using strap steel (the bendable stuff that they use to hold torque convertors in transmissions when being shipped) to fab up the mounts because it is workable yet stiff, but i have also thought of making said mounts from strap steel and then remaking them from something that's not going to give, like regular steel, and welding them together. Any input from anyone who has had to make mounts in tiny spaces by eye is also appreciated.

UPDATE!!! (I know, finally)
c-106, c-108, d-04, or d-05 is the connector number, and the number after that is the wire number.
This is a small list of which wires from the evo 8 dash gauges go to what wires from the 1g dash harness. I know it says "2gb" at the top right, but i sketched that list at 3 in the morning. The haynes manual doesn't have all the wiring schematics for the 1g dash, so im at a standstill right now. I will type up the wire pinouts for the evo gauges, so don't freak if you cant read my chitty handwriting. Once i have the entire dash wired (gauges, a/c controls, etc.) i will make a full pinout of sorts to help make the rewire easier. Just wanted to get this out there for anyone who is also attempting to do this.
Also, if anyone has a full pdf of the 1gb electrical system send me a pm with the info.

I actually got the 92 Talon Electrical Manual at MOD in Normal this year as well as an arsenal of other years and mechanical books as well. Free to boot. I'll look it up now and get them scanned ASAP.

Yeah i'm a little disappointed in the amount of time its taking me, but between watching my 5 month old while my better half is at work, looking for a job, and not having anyone to help me move the dash around, I think i'm doing ok. i did figure out a way to make mounts for the pegs on the firewall, which ill post in the next few days. If anyone in the ocala, fl area wants to help, your more than welcome. Thanks for the support though, it is appreciated!

well, i have decided that the area close to the shifter is getting cut out, and fiberglassed a little shorter. its going to be near-flush with the rest of the dash. but im getting a motor in the car in the next week, so i will hopefully have it completed by then. more soon

Holy shit that's ambitious. Love the idea though. If the finished product looks clean I may stick it on my to-do list.

Different guy. We picked up where he left off. Just wiring in the cluster. A bit more research and adjustments to the dash and we will be set to make a tutorial. The steering column does not sit up all the way with the evo dash. You'll actually have to have it set as low as possible to clear the bottom of the gauge surround. Some custom trimming will be required. Other than that. The dash is actually shorter than the 1g dash. So there are edges that are exposed.
