So I finished my FMIC and thought that all the little fitment issues had been cleared up, until it came to mount up my air filter. Unfortunately, the BOV seems to have been poorly placed on the UICP, and my 1g maf will no longer mount up. I plan on running a section of 3" aluminum piping with a 90 degree bend from my intake, through my inner fender, down to where my smic used to be. I'm worried however, that debris and water will ruin my air filter, so I'm wondering if anyone else in here has relocated their air filter like this, and if they had problems with water and road debris, and if anyone built an airbox to fit. Worse comes to worse I can always find another 1g air can and mount up the shroud that originally went from my fog light bumper opening to my smic, cut the can to match, and just jb weld the shroud to the can....that might be my simplest option.

Your profile says your running a 3" gm maf. Is the punishment racing kit your using?

But yeah multiple have routed a "cold air" intake system with an elbow that drops the filter down in the wheel well through the hole for the old upper intercooler pipe.

Unfortunately, it is not a case of the pipe being upside down, as the bov hits the hood the other way, and the piping is about 4" off from lining up. the bov flange is only 2" or so from the end of the pipe instead of being more in the middle as the picture above. That mounting looks nice, I'll have to look into a 45 degree elbow to put it at that angle. Do you ever have a problem ingesting water? Profile needs to be updated, I haven't put the maf on, I'm waiting to get the rest of my build together before I decide between SD and the gm maf.

I don't drive it in the rain but I built a sheet metal box all the way around it so the only opening is the front. I think it would be ok even if I did, at least in light to moderate rains.

It looks like your untake pipe is too short and is locating the metal portion of the can right next to the IC pipe. Compare it to the first picture of post #3 where the air can is well beyond the IC pipe. Seems like that would give you more clearance for the BOV.

Either that, or your IC piping is too close to the frame rail. It's hard to sell from your pics.

Punishment piping kit is a little tight near the bov flange as well and thats with a 2g maf which is a bit smaller than the 1g air can maf. It looks like if your intake pipe was a few inches longer it might be able to get that section of the air can past the bov flange.

Yup, 3" gm maf and 1g maft translator solved the problem.

Was the IC OEM? Wait...

What you aren't realizing is twofold...

1. This kit works for nearly everybody. Given the configurations out there, that's pretty damned good.
2. We still don't allow vendor reviews in the forums. Feel free to use the appropriate channels.
