A/R.50 Ebay Turbo Question...?

Yea I know ppl are gonna give me crap about it but I bought the car like this.

It's an ebay turbo, states: A/R.50 is this suppose to be like the 50 trim or something? It has actually been working for the past 130k miles on the car. But im guessing it's time for a rebuild, some people get lucky when buying ebay items, other not so lucky.

I just wanted to know if this turbo is better than the stock version that came in my car (1991 gst) And if it is, is it pushing more cfm through that I should get bigger injectors. Or should I just keep the stock ones. I will be pushing more out of the turbo but just wanted to know if anyone else has had this turbo for a while and how it's coming out.

Mine still looks great and sounds great. No problems after a while.

It's referring to the a/r of the compressor cover (or should I say the Garrett cover which is was copied from). It has nothing to do with the size of the compressor wheel.

I've seen eBay T04E turbos which had compressor inducers smaller than a 20G, and some had wheels that are larger than an actual Garrett T04E50. Some have 360* thrust plates, some have the old-school 270* thrust plate. Some blow in 50 miles, some seem to last forever.

The main problem is there is no one manufacturer building these anymore like there was back in the "XS Power" days. You have no clue what you're getting these days....even if you buy from the same eBay vendor twice- because the vendor doesn't give two shits about the part they're selling, they just want to make the sale.

Yea I see what your saying. So is there anyway to tell if this one is better than the stock turbo it had? :pray:
 
Your stock turbo will probably last forever..Most ebay turbo will blow up in less than a thousand miles..I just got done blowing one up myself so I know first hand how great and crappy they are at the same time..
 
Hmm I dont like the sound of that. I guess I shouldnt be cheap and get a better (real) turbo. Thanks for the info. I might just get a big 16g. Not sure yet.
 
I would go small 16g or evo3 16g..You can get the evo3 for like 559 shipped(new), then add porting to help with boost creep and your looking at around 630 ish shipped...And you shouldn't have a problem with those turbo's at all..

When you weigh the options, the eBay junk requires a different manifold, external gate, different oil lines, and a custom o2 housing where the 16G would be a reliable direct-fit upgrade that you can find here in the classifieds for $250-$300 in good used condition. The 16G will use all of your existing oil lines and fit directly in place of the 14B.
 
I had one of those turbos for a while. I don't want to break the rules, but if you want that specific turbo just PM me. I cleaned it up a little and made sure its good. No smoking or shaft play. PM me.
