I wanted some feedback on this, I just bought DSMLink v2.5 off a member here. I paypal'ed him the money and he shipped it out the same day. Everything seemed to be fine until I get the package and open it up.

I open the ecu to verify everything and this is what I see. Mind you I haven't even used/installed it.

I texted him and emailed him pics and got no response. So I filed a paypal dispute and he finally responds. He refuses to refund my money and is blaming me for improper installation and faulty wiring in my car. WTF the ECU never made to the car LOL.

Sorry for the book but IDK what to really do from here, I just want to drive my TSi.

Holy crap, that's insane. I'm a technician and it's hard to say what has actually happened there, from the pictures. What I mean is it's hard to see if it slowly melted or violently exploded LOL Whatever happened, stand your ground. We can only hope what is right will prevail. The paypal claim sword is indeed, doubled-edged.

If thats how you got it and was not inform of the condition i would want my money back or resolve it with the seller.Did he show you pictures of the ecu before you bought it?

I'm pretty sure that's an injector driver, and it's f'd in the a with no lube. ECMLink might be able to replace it but the damage could have gone much further. Best solution in my opinion is to get your money back in full, wash your hands of this ecu/dsmlink and buy another unit from somebody you can trust.

IIRC that is the ISC part of the ECU, it happened to me when my ISC went out and blew the drivers in my ECU. It's as good as parts unless you have a donor ECU. Hope everything works out.

That's actually the driver for the BCS and the fuel pressure solenoids. It's possible the previous owner didn't even know they were blown as the ECU might be working just fine (assuming it didn't damage anything else).

That's correct & Very true ^

It looks like IC104 (MAF active reset filter) is also toast from what I see in the pic.

OP,
These drivers fry due to excessive current, usually from problems with the wiring like shorts or faulty solenoids. They can be replaced, It's not like the whole ECU is garbage like said above the Seller might not have even known their was a problem.

Also a note sometimes problems with the drivers usually lead to problems with the sensor ground trace as well....

I'm not sure if you know how to repair the ECU. But, if you do or plan to, these drivers marked IC104-IC109 are M5269L low saturation output drivers. If you do repair it, It wouldn't be a bad Idea to also check for continuity between the main ground and sensor grounds. If there is no continuity, check the back of the ECU for a fried/broken trace.

Here's a data sheet for the drivers M5269L Doc

There is no reason to get a new EPROM ECU. Whoever said that is an idiot. Thomas at DSMLink can easily fix it.

IMO, I would wait out and see what happens with Paypal. IF that falls through, the first place I would go to is ECMTuning. They do fantastic work and are VERY quick about it. I don't know how much you paid but you may even be able to send in the ECU to have it serviced AND upgrade to V3.. Just a thought if paypal falls through. In the end if you pay less than $500 and end up with full V3, it would still be worth it in costs.

$195 + shipping for the V3 upgrade. They would also probably give you a decent deal on ECU repairs if you are doing the upgrade as well. When I ordered V3lite with the non-eprom conversion, the conversion cost was $95 and they replaced all my caps AND both ISC drivers at no additional charge (they were both fried)...

Just food for though man. Good luck and I hope all works out!

Ok, i just got the ECU after agreeing with Paypal about the refund and i got a big surprise, no DSMLink chip or cable just the EPROM ECU. :banghead:

This is the 3rd time something like this happened to me for selling parts to new member, I though you could not get scammed for a buyer but guess what? I got owned once again. I never have a problem when selling to proven members or wise-mans here i have like around 19 positive feedback from all proven members and lots more that haven't left feedback yet because they were satisfied and forgot to do it.

This is just like the time i sold a new member a turbo that needed rebuild and the he snap the shaft, i'm guessing by trying to rebuild it himself and he didn't know the threads were reversed on those kind of turbos and he wanted his money back and returned the turbo. thank good i had a video to prove the the shaft was intact when i ship it.

I'm not gonna stay quiet i'm going to contact Paypal and let them know if this is a kind of joke or what. I actually though that maybe that damage to the ECU was there before i sold it because someone post here that the car would not act any different since i had no FPRS or stock BCS, but after this i believe he had everything planned and he got himself a free DSMLink. :banghead:

I got my lesson learn and i will not sell my parts to any new members with no post counts. :ohdamn:

Make sure you provide the buyer with the feedback here he deserves but on the other hand you should have taken care of this right away by taking pictures of your ECU before sending it out. It would have been clear if the driver was blown before or after it was sent.

He'll find out shortly that the cable and EPROM that he stole are worthless without the daughterboard shown in the picture. As long as you still have that board you actually have DSMLink. It just doesn't work right now but it can be fixed.
