Anyone use ATF+4 in their MT?

I think it is a no-no, but I will just ask. I would imagine that would free up a little bit of HP due to less drivetrain loss but apparently the synchros will wear down?

I have done this for a previous DSM with no issues but I want to see what you all think about it these days. I know that there are quite a few manual transmissions that ATF is suggested for but I am guessing that the DSM is not one of them.

Any thoughts?

Atf in a manual? Never heard of it. Would think that would be a definite no no.

ATF is too slick for the synchros.

ATF really does work in a fair number of manual transmissions. I just ask these questions every once in a while because opinions do change.

If you all feel that it is too slick for the syncros then it is a no go for me.

ATF+4 is what Chrysler recommends in many of their manual transmissions including the NVT350 used in 420A-powered DSMs, however you should be using a GL4 gear lube in a 4G63-powered DSM's manual trans.

I would recomend Amsoil.. it wont damage the synchros....

I have an Oldschool auto guru friend of mine, I wont ever let him work on my DSM, but he does have some intresting homebrew fixes. He once had me add brake fluid to fix a PS leak. Worked great.

He did recommend I had some AT fluid to fix a grinding 1st & 2nd gear.

Ofcourse not replace m/t oil with AT, but to add like a 1/2 qt.

It worked great, but I ended up selling the GST about 2 weeks later, so I dont know if it was a perma-fix. I still recommened to the guy I sold it to, that he should change the M/T oil asap.

Redline fluids are awesome. I think RRE is getting sick of me ordering from them though. I've ordered the same Redline fluids 3 times in the past month now. At $70 an order though they shouldn't be complaining.

Not a DSM but my Bronco calls for ATF Dex/Merc in it. I was looking at the Alldata one day and the only fluids for our M/T is Gear oil, depending on your temperature ranges depends on the weight of it.

the MOD has it correct. I also use Redline MT-90 with great results. ATF+4, or SP-II is for the F4A series of Mitsu automatic transmissions.
