which tranny

so i've kind of been looking, but too many not right answers keep popping up. which other transmissions will fit in an 1990 awd talon? like will a tranny from a 91 work? or even a 92? if anyone has an extra 90 awd tranny laying around that works and sees this, just message me please. thanks guys.

The 1990 AWD transmission was different from the 1991+ AWD transmission. It had a 22-spline output shaft while the later years had a shaft with 23 splines. The later year transmissions will work so long as you have a matching transfer case with it.

cool so as long as i have a tranny/transfer case from a 91-94, it will bolt to my 90 engine. but will my 90 drive shaft and cv axles fit to the 91-94 tranny/transfer case?

The drive shaft is the same for all 1G AWD cars. The axles used in 1990 AWD cars are the same for all 90-94 5-speed cars, so the axles from your 1990 should work.

you can use any transfer case you want so long as you have the stubshaft for it.. swapping out a stubshaft is a 20 min job at the most
