another wideband question that has probably been answered but i just dont know how to word it properly. i plan on tuning with an safcII and a wideband. ive read where you can place the wb sensor in the stock front o2 location..can i remove the stock o2 sensor and just wire the AEM sensor to my ecu and have the car just read my AEM sensor rather than the stock one? so basically the ecu would never know the o2 sensor was an aftermarket wb and just act as if the stock one was in there with no problems? i think it would be pin 76? not really sure..thanks

I'm pretty sure you cannot do this with out ecmlink! And the sensors are way different! Have you seen the stock o2 sensor? Its not as advanced at the after market o2 sensors! I'm pretty sure you cannot just link it into the ecu and then read it from there! I've not done this as not only is it way to close and will kill your new sensor and I'm trying to find the post I read that said something about this! When and if I find it I'll post it up for you!

Agreed ec17... When you run your wideband you have to hook it upto your aftermarket gauge. I have read forums that have aid they run the wideband in the stock location, some say it works out fine others burn up the sensors quick. Only my opinion weld the bung on the exhaust to whatever recommendations the sensor came with and run it, I dont know how accurate it would read if you wired it to your harness for the ecu

i know some say it burns it up rather quickly but some say they have had it in the stock location for years..i was just curious if i could simulate my stock o2 sensor with my AEM sensor and it would be like nothing ever was switched

No you can not from my experience because you don't have a stand alone ecu and what most people use widebands for is to see for themselves what a/f ratios they are running and since you only have an afc that won't be good enough for you to just swap out the o2 sensor in place for your wideband, so yeah anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

The wideband is 100% fine to locate in the front o2 sensor location without issues and no heat sinks are required. Forget about the whole 36" crap and what not that you are previously familiar with.

HOWEVER, the AEM WB does NOT have provisions to wire it into narrow band simulation without a new ECU unlike the Innovate LC1 which has a built in narrow band simulation that can be wired into the front o2 pin without a new ECU.

So, unfortunately in your situation, you cannot utilize NBS currently. If you had the better LC1 then you could do so now :coy:

Everyone, just remember, these wideband sensors come factory on many vehicles on the FRONT location.

alright maybe thats what i read..well i guess ill go that route and wire an LC1 wideband rather than the AEM on to the ECU..do you have any write ups on how to install that wideband? if you dont i will search just seeing if you did..and also is there a certain gauge or kit i should buy or do all Innovative LC1 widebands work this way?

I would recommend an LC-1 kit from eBay (should be around $160-$180 with a gauge - your choice of blue or red).

Here's how to wire it up (which you can find posted a lot on this forum).
Brown - ECU Pin 75 (only if you need the wideband logged - if not, use this wire to feed the gauge)
Red - Accessory power supply
Blue + white - Grounded using same crimp ring
Yellow - ECU Pin 76
Black - wired up to push button switch and LED per instructions

the bosch uego is used in production volkswagens, some of which come turbocharged, so I'd imagine the "if you mount them close to the turbo, they burn up" is more speculation that actually proven.

you can replace the rear O2 sensor and use that only if your device has support for narrowband (0-1V) simulation. the rear O2 is used only for emissions, so you still might get a CEL if the narrowband simulated voltage isn't what the ECU expects after the catalytic converter...

i kno understand where those wires go but i got 2 more questions..do i need to hook up the gauge to the computer to simulate narrowband or when i use the yellow wire and not use the brown wire at all it knows this is narrow band sim?..also what do i do with the 4 wires coming off the back of the gauge itself? i can only find the wiring of the main wire coming off the lc1 itself..

alright i got everything installed but im getting a check engine light? is this normal or did i do something wrong..im using the narrowband sim (yellow wire). i tapped in the ecu pin 76..am i supposed to tap into wire or cut wire and connect the yellow wire to the ecu side of wire? thanks guys.

Something is not right with your wiring. It threw code most likely to it not getting the o2 sensor reading and threw a code for it. Make sure it is wired right and check again. You can put the wide band in any location, even at your tail pipe if you wanted to. In states that have emissions this is basically what they use to check to see if you pass emission levels. I like the second o2 spot on a 2g for the wide band location.
