ok i just bought this car and she said it was cold nature and is hard to start in the cold (takes 2 to 3 times to start and have to give it gas) it has to warm up or it will die. and when its warm and its idling it goes from 200 rpms to 1300 rpms than back to 200 rpms over and over again. other than that car runs fine.
i found 4 plugs under the hood that don't go to anything one i think is going to the windshield fluid thats not there but i got pics
Mis fotos
all three pis are there on the right of the pic

the girl that i bought the car from she said that the guy before her took something off that equalized something for the motor to right right at start up in cold weather and idle right

The plug by the brake fluid is for the windshield washer pump. The plug on front of block I have no clue, it's not on my block. Look on the block and see if it says 420A? It's silly question but hey it happens! Also, look and see how many pins are inside the plug. Does the oil pressure light ever come on? Cos it could be the sensor for it, but that's usually on the back of the block.

i looked to see if it said 420A but i don't really know where i need to look for it at and i cant see down in the plug to see how many pins are in it
my oil pressure reads fine everything works on the dash so idk
and one of those plugs i know goes the the washer pump but what about the other two

Did you look at the thread posted? Did you try any of those things, idle could be a sensor on your 420 or a boost leak, were trying to help but you gotta start somewhere even with a non turbo.

i am trying i don't see 420 anywhere on the block that i could see and its not a turbo
where do i need to look to see if it says 420 on the block iv asked but no answer thats what i was talking about im trying to let yall help me

Look around on your throttle body for a plug that will match one of those or somewhere that has been blocked off. It sounds to me like the guy may have removed the Idle Air Control motor. This part is not cheap to replace on these cars. Basically, the IAC is what makes these, and other fuel injected cars, "fast idle". If the part has been bypassed, and I've seen it done, the car will never idle when it is cold. It can also cause the fluctuation you're describing when it's warm as the computer is trying to adjust the fuel mixture. Do you have a check engine light on?

its a five speed and i can't really see nothing missing
where on the intake is the idle air control motor locked
thanks for the help

oh and my check engine lights is on

Here's the location of the IAC on your car, with respect to the throttle body:

ok its there
so im guessing it could possibly be bad is there a way i can test it
and thanks that helped alot

i can't mine has a short at the connector
It seems like idle surge isn't the only thing wrong with the car. The CEL is there to help you troubleshoot things such as idle surge, misfires, etc. so fixing the short should be at the top of your to-do list. Its basically a guessing game until you pull that code off of the ECU.

I'll check my 420A block and see if mine has that plug under the exhaust just next to the starter. I was checking voltage at the start last night though, and I don't remember seeing it there.

I just checked mine and it doesn't have a plug in the front...!! I don't know what is it on yours ....but for the idle you can check the tps,and iac sensors..on you intake...also check you vacuum lines...

I'm working on the short but right now I am stuck cause I can't find a wiring diagram for my 96 Eclipse GS.
Does anyone know where i can get one for free?
I am going to post another thread and before anyone tells to to F-ing search I did, on this site and Google and the only thing I came up with was I wiring diagram for turbo cars with the DOC. (or what ever it is called) motor and its not the complete same.
Here is what i found.
http://www.dsm-club.org/doc/pdf/2g/electrical/98_ELECTRICAL_WIRING.pdf

Good job searching first, a lot of times it doesn't always workout like we expect, making it hard to find what we're looking for. Here's the '95-'96 Electrical manual, the 420A wiring is there as well as the 4g63/4g64 platforms, you've just got to find it for your model.

I'm not the only one with this problem.
I was posting a forum and this came up.
I wonder if we have bought these cars form the same owner.:p
This has helped me out a lot.

I just ran out side and looked at my car to see about that plug on the block. So I am back with good news and bad news. Good news I also have it. Now the bad, mine also is just the plug and that wiring diagram doesn't show that plug so. Sorry I guess I will be watching this post and looking for the answer.
