im am confused on the compatability between the years.. is there a clear guid for the 2g awds?

95-96 97-99 awd 5speed transmssion's, what exactually is interchangeable?

transfercases, diffs, gears......?? i have found nothing that clearly spells it out so to speak.

also only information i have found on useing a jdm tranny is changing out the ring and pinion gears to change the final drive to match the year of car you want to install it in..

All years of 1g and 2g can interchange with their respective body styles (for example: a 90 GSX trans can be swapped into a 94 Tsi or a 95 Tsi can be swapped into a 99 GSX) Now as far as switching generations, a 1g can use a 2g trans but a 2g cannot use a 1g trans. (example: You can swap a 95-99 trans into a 90-94 but you cannot swap a 90-94 trans into a 95-99) make sense?

yes i understand, the reason it cannot be done i herd is because of tranny mounts. the 2g transmission has 3 tranny mounts and the 1g tranny only has one which is why you cant usea 1g tanny in a 2g becasue you need 3 mounts to hold the engine in place on a 2g.

6 questions below if i can get these answered i will be good to go

why do i keep hering that you have to have the same transfer case as the year tranny you are using?

if i have a damaged 95awd tranny can i use internals from a 97-99 to repair it.. or if i have a jdm tranny can i just use the gears and differentials from it ?

Also if i have a jdm tranny and change the ring and pinion gears to change the final drive ratio, then what transferr case do i use, a 95-96 or a 97-99?

what is the difference?

And are the internals iterchangable between the years of the 2g transmission?

i know all about spline counts need no education in that respect, but i keep hereing different storys, if you use a 97-99 tranny you have to have a 97-99 transfer case. why?

these are the questions that need to be answered.
