Which clutch kit for DD AWD?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

You have a quite a few options. ACT 2600 is tried and true, it has a heavier clutch feel, I didn't really think it was too much of a difference. The Clutchmasters FX 300 is around your power requirements and has a stock-ish feel. Also, and I wish I knew about this when I bought my new clutch, the Southbend Kevlar Discs are supposed to be a great set-up when paired to their pressure plate or an ACT 2100 pressure plate. There's minimal pedal pressure increase with the ACT 2100.

go to autoparts warehouse.com and this is a great clutch to have in ## car i have it in mine and it feels stock its an amazing clutch but there is all the info for it hope it helps

hmm ok ill look into those, if anyone else reads this post feel free to add. thanks guys.

And why stock flywheel for AWD?

Centerforce looks nice but I need someone to confirm that this this clutch will take a beating and survive once i reach my hp goal

I run the South Bend stage 4 SS-OFE clutch series and the clutch grabs really hard but is slightly harder pedal than stock. I have drove 13 hours each way to the DSM/EVO shootout and I couldn't even tell the difference and never bothered me. I am running a Fidanza lightweight flywheel but am gonna switch back to the stock flywheel after I get it resurfaced this winter. The light weight aluminum flywheels on aluminum cars tend to heat up a little more and will deform easier than the heavier stock ones.

I am running the South Bend Clutch HD pressue plate and the kevlar disk, and a fidanza flywheel

Great setup, break in period is about 500 miles for the clutch, but it grips and holds. Kevlar is also great for the DD because it wears less then conventional organic face disk. I dont plan on huge launches, my talon is my DD and to know my clutch is going to last longer is just some peace of mind for me.

Also great price. under 300 for it shipped. Competition and Clutch master charge over 400 for both their kevlar disk.

goodluck

My vote would be the ACT-2100 as far as you saying you want it to feel as close to stock as possible (I have the 2100 and love it). However, 350+ horsepower is about when our stock trannys start to get sketchy on hard pulls and launches. So you might not want to launch/ load up hard with 400 horsepower with the 2100 and stock tranny. The 2600 is going to be super grabby and a pain while driving stop and go trafic, but would handle 400 HP better than the 2100.

So basically, it always boils down to chosing less horsepower and more DD functionality, or more horsepower and and less comfortable driving.

IMO - I have a 16g turbo, ACT-2100 and stock tranny.. my horsepower goals are only 300 while I still have a stock tranny.. and even that's pushing it as far as me being careful about all out launches.

I run a ACT 2600 on my car...DD...AWD....Potential for 400whp. I have no problem in traffic with this clutch setup. O and I just sprained my left ankle two days ago and I can still drive.

I have well over 400 awhp and With my SB OFE kit, I DD my car stop and go traffic and have no issues. I even drove my car for awhile with this clutch kit on a stock tranny and the tranny never had one issue.

OP-SB clutches have a soft peddle even when you buy one of their mid range clutch kits and then you wouldn't have to worry about your clutch giving out. IMO- I wouldn't feel comfortable with an under powered clutch in my car.

I have run the Centerforce Dual Friction in my car and at around 300 AWHP it lasted 20,000 miles and at least 30 good launches before it started slipping like crazy.

I then went to a 2600 with a sprung street disk and that lasted longer, about 40,000 miles a bunch of 1.6- 1.7 second 60' launches in there but it started slipping to and this was at just over 300 AWHP.

I recently put a built engine in the car and it makes around 450 AWHP and I put a PTT twin disk in with it. The twin disk is surprisingly easy to drive in LA freeway traffic and after the first 6,000 miles it shows almost no signs of wear as I just pulled the engine and trans last week to repair a damaged piston.

I have the ACT 2600 with a street disc. It takes quite a bit of force to push it to the floor.
If you build the 7 bolt it will put more pressure on your thrust bearing and possibly cause it to wear out. Keep in mind crank walk. More pressure on a crank that is known to walk....

anything more than an ACT 2100 you might be running into some problems with premature thrust bearing failure. Piggy-back on what most of these guys are suggesting, a South Bend clutch w/ stock flywheel. They run cheap and although I have never ran one I have never heard anything bad. But thats my 2 cents.

I am determined to keep my car a 7bolt for some reason. I hope that I can keep from getting crank walk again. I read about the Exedy 2300lb clutch that is suppose to hold the power you want with a stock like feel to it.

400AWHP is my goal too.

I believe it all depends on how you can adapt. I loved the feel of my centerforce dual but i drive my ACT 2900 with act Xact flywheel in the street and to work all day when i'm not on my bike. i don't notice how harsh the pedal is until i drive my buddys car. i like it though. it's all preference and adaptability.
The only real advice i can give you is dont go out looking for a 400+ hp clucth that you want to take a beating you say, with a 200 hp clutch feel. the heavier/higher torque the clutch the harsher the pedal. deal with it
