So i been looking around for a gsx, got approved for a loan and everything. I found a mint one, color i wanted and all. Drove three hours to go look at the car. The car looks mint, paint was flawless exept a little clear peeling (cant really notice but i notice every little detail). It had Bear big brake kit, tien flex coilovers, 18" racing hart c2, full 3 inch exhaust, rebuilt trans,and all new axles. car also had 80,000 original milage and was a car from the south so it had no rust. The guy claims it was garage kept. I ran an auto check and found out it was a gst converted to a gsx.(I wasn't to happy to find that out, didnt have leather or anything). So i got there and the guy told me he was having problems with it, He said the crank case pressure was way to high, it blew the dipstick out. I though this could be blow by, either from the turbo seals, valve stem seals or mabey the PCV. So i did a compression test and it was perfect across the board. The guy also said it burnt a significant amount of oil (turbo??). I took it for a test drive and it ran good. He wants 6000 for the car, he claims he can get 8000, what do you guys thing?? :confused:

A compression test won't really tell you about cylinder leakage, a leakdown test would. It seems a bit high but the Tein is worth $1500 and the Baer brake kit almost $1000. Racing Harts are not cheap, either. But to me a well running car with no mods is worth more than a car that has problems with tons of upgrades.
 
Im just trying to find out if it would be an easy fix, I know alot about these cars and had a felling it was nothing major. I also wanna know if i would be able to drive it four hours back to my house(babying it of course).

It just sounds like it is losing compression and that usually doesn't result in it just giving out. You would have to take the engine out and take the block to a machinist and have him measure everything and then he could tell you if you could get away with a simple re-ring and re-hone or if it would need to be bored out.
 
dont get it, you can find a mint one without problems for 6 grand, hell i bought mine for 4300 and it ran tits. plus its a gsx swap so you dont know what was done. dont spend $6000 on a headache just wait for something else. I actually know of 2 cars in ny that are in great shape that will be up for sale very soon. pm me for info on them.
 
I dont have the place, time or resorces to convert mine to AWD. Dont get me wrong i'd love to, but i cant. I Really liked that car, besides the fact that it had problems. I was just curious if anyone had a problem like that. Im telling you the compression came back PERFECT. I doubt its such a major problem that i need to take the block apart and re-hone and re-ring. Im goin with more of a PCV or blown turbo seal type deal. Also wanted to know if you guys think it'll make it back here to NY. The car was about four hours away in PA. The car was garage kept and it shows. The car was awsome and i really want it unless the crank case pressure is a major issue and i cant get home without breaking....

i wouldn't. like someone else said, they've already done an awd conversion on it, what else have they been diggin in to? you may get it all the way back home and it falls apart. who knows? i wouldn't. i agree with them ^^. keep looking, you'll feel better about it later -nods-
 
Yea i gave up on that car, the guy wanted way to much for a car with problems like that. I been looking around, first off i hate Craiglist, seems like eveything on theres i beat to shit, and i fell like everything autotrader is nice but way overpriced. Idk where to look, but this thread is pretty much resolved. thanks for the advise guys.

You've always got dsmtuners classifieds, dsmtrader classifieds, dsmlink classifieds, cars.com, ebay, and mautofied.com.

I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting as well.
