Ok so i have a 92 talon tsi i traded it for my old honda pretty much a steal
anyway the guy said he snapped a timing belt but had the head rebuilt cause it caused the valves to bend just fyi
anyway when the car is idling it sits there at like 1000rpm then goes up to 1500rpm then it keeps doing that up and down whenever the car is idling the guy said the idle contorl valve needs to be adjusted is this true or could it be a sensor or a boost leak or what could it be?
also i was reading on here and there was a thread on what happens if your timing is off by a tooth or two and it said if it is off by two teeth then you will hear a knocking like sound coming from the engine i hear this on my car is it possible that they could of timed it wrong and thats why i hear these sounds? and i have an aftermarket boost gauge and whenever i step on it everything is good boost up then when i let go of the gas the boost gauge itself makes a chsshhhhhhh sound and wont stop till go into boost again?? and the guy before me took off the recirculating hose for the bov and i just put it back on and the car seems to be working better sucks to not really hear the sound of the bov but healthier for the engine anyway i just wanted to give you all the info on the car and hopefully someone can help me out thanks

Welcome to the world of DSM! Replace the part, even better, rebuild the throttle body, and check for vacuum leaks, then go from there. The car is 18 years old after all.:thumb:

Yeah your Dsm will give you some problems if you haven't spent the time to do proper maintenance. Sounds like your ISC is done, but I also would check and see if your timing marks are lined up. Vfaq.com can answer any questions you have about the timing alignment and proper ways to adjust to get it right. Do a Boost leakdown test and see if the gasket around the ISC is bad. Happened to me, and once I replaced that Idled alot smoother. Vac lines are cheap to replace, if haven't done in a while probably go ahead and spend the 25 dollars to by a length of new hose and replace the old. GoodLuck and let us know what you find.:aha:

It's your FIAV (Fast Idle Air Valve). It's located in the lower portion of the throttle body. Only way to 100% fix it is to eliminate the lower portion altogether. There are block off plates for like $25 to do this. Eliminates the ISC and FIAV. Only drawback to doing this is the car will be tough to keep running for about 15-20 seconds until it warms up. Gonna have to keep your foot on the gas until it runs on its own.

ok so i fixed the IAC valve yesterday and i drove it home fine then today i went to start it and it kinda hesitated to start but once it strted it was in nuetral and although my tac does not work it the idle shot up way high like 4k and it was just staying like that so i shut the car off super quick idkwhat the heck it is there were two sensors that were disconnected but i re connected them and it still did the idle thing i dont know what the heck it is anybody can you help me!!??:ohdamn:

Nevermind the throttle cable was to tight I'm gonna check for vacuum lines today to see why the idling is still being dumb I'll let u guys know how it goes

so we were checking for boost leaks and spraying brake cleaner every which way and whenever we sprayed the intercooler piping that goes left of the bov the idle would idle normally again so we thought there was a crack on that intercooler piping so we pulled it off then replaced it with a radiator hose that was the same thickness and length but it kept doing the idling problem then we sprayed brake cleaner on that intercooler piping again but more towards the bottom of that intercooler piping where it leads to the actually intercooler and it idled normal again for a couple seconds. So could i have a cracked intercooler or what could it be i stilll need to to a Boost leak test but i gotta go to my buddies house hes got all the tools i was just wonderin if anybody knows or knows what it might be im gonna post up a video of it whenever i get the time but lotsa school and work anyway any tips or help?? thanks
