I was reading a 4G63 tuning book and here's what it said about crankwalk that ruined my day:
"In extreme cases, the crank will have moved so far that it will actually move the sensor out of place, causing a stall when the clutch is depressed."

2 days ago, this was happening while I was driving:
1. My car idles fine.
2. My car shifts fine.
3. While in motion only, if I push my clutch in for more than 2 seconds my car will either die for a split second and come back to life on it's own, OR die for good and have to be roll started.
4. This does not happen while I'm parked and in Neutral. I can hold my clutch down as long as I want and it idles fine.

Please tell me this is anything other than a crankwalk sign!!
I don't have any other crankwalk signs like fast ticking, or a sticking clutch. my 95 gsx only has 76,000 miles on it.

jack the car up, grab ahold of the harmonic balancer and push it in and out. If there is ALOT of play then its crank walked.. I assume thats how this is tested.

I believe the major symptom is the engine bogging when turning a certain direction, ca't remember which direction. I believe the stats for crank-walk are pretty low.

Do as the first responder said, check for play with the HB.

i walked mine, and i did have that symptom, but i do not believe it is related. you will NOT be able to accurately measure crank walk by pulling on the harmonic balancer. there is a proper method for checking crank end play. if you do a search, i bet youll come up with several results.

It would be happening in gear and in neutral. This doesn't sound like crank walk to me. Are you getting complete disengagement?
Troubleshoot your hydraulic and clutch systems and go from there.

If you were really concerned I'd just drop the pan and measure with a feeler gauge. It's really no biggie, so long as you keep track of the 2 short bolts for the oil pan.

When my engine got it, my major symptom was RPMs dropping when the clutch was pressed in at idle. Got worse over a couple days until the motor starting making metal on metal sounds screeching and hollering at me. Stalling out and the like. Some peoples are more extreme than others.

Mine had great compression, but NO power at all. I have Major play in the crank and the thrust bearings were shot

I had a similar problem with my car dying when i clutched in for too long between shifts. It turned out to be my bov not opening. What kind are you using?

I had a greddy type s. Did the single spring mod and it solved my problem. Initially I thought it was a shitty tune with my safc, but it was the bov for sure.

Now boost-leaks affect when the clutch is used? If my paint starts to fade, I'll be sure to check all my IC pipes.

He said the car acts perfectly fine when sitting at an idle with the cluth in. So to me that means it has nothing to do with the clutch. When i had some bad boost leaks and a BOV that wasn't opening properly my car would also want to stall coming to a stop with the clutch pressed in. Just because he pressed the clutch when it happens does not make it a clutch issue. Just my thoughts on it.
