I'm looking at buying the Borg Warner S256 non-extended tip turbo from extreme psi for $750. What is everyones thoughts on this turbo? I have read the "256 review" thread already, but that mostly pertained to the Extended tip version. As from what I understand, you just basically cant run over 30psi correct? As far as lbs p/min, how much difference is there between the NET and the ETT?

The two options they have for it is 55 a.r. and T3 v-band. If I go 55 a.r. do I just run the WG off the O2? Also If I went v-band, would I just buy a 3in V-band downpipe? and who would carry them? Sorry I'm just a little confused about these set-ups they're not the normal manifold with wastegate and downpipe like I am used to.

I've seen the s256 put down some really good numbers. 28lbs of boost with this turbo would make one sick ride. the regular BWs256 is pretty much like an extended tip 50 trim. its a 56lb/min turbo with 56mm inducer 80mm exducer compressor wheel

I've got a friend making pretty good power on the NET version. Its made to be happy in the 20-25psi range. You can run more than that, but you just start to get out of you efficiency range.

As far as the set-up goes... if you go with the .55A/R DSM Hotside, your set-up depends on which set-up you order... you can buy it with or without an internal wastegate... and you can buy it set-up for an external off of the manifold, or off of the O2 Housing.

BUT, if you want to buy an S256ET version... I have one for sale ($800)... DSM Hotside (.55A/R) with an internal wastegate. If you wanna run an external wastegate, its pretty easy to just cut off the internal wastegate and go from there.
 
I have seen a few result threads about the S256. It is easily a 500whp turbo on E85 based on its flow rating. I think it would be a beast. I have a buddy selling one for a great price if you are interested.
 
yea iv read all the threads on it but most of them are for the extended tip, im just trying to find some solid numbers on it cause tax time is coming up and its between the s256 NET or im gonna go the holset route

That, my friend, would be a toss up as I battled those same thoughts. It would be very interesting to see some back to back tests but that would be a fantasy. I believe that you will be pleased regardless of the route you select.
 
Off topic kind of but I have the s256 et and I loove it. I was getting 25psi around 3800 ish. That was with an evo3 manifold it may have a little more lag now with my fp manifold. Anyways I don't really know the differences between the two but me and my buddy both run the et turbo and I have no complaints. Defently a lot better than my 16g.
