I have a 92 talon tsi with evo 8 fuel pump, evo 8 injectors and running 15 pounds of boost. I recently just blew my headgasket and i was calling around to advanced and napa stores, and i found a $40 Fel-Pro headgasket from Advanced auto and i was wondering if this would be a good idea for my car, i really dont want to pull the head off and replace another one. What do you think would it be a bad idea to go with the $40 Fel-pro head gasket?

I too ran the felpro head gasket and arp's all last year, with no issues! 30psi and mid to high 11s with that gasket!! New build this year, so I went with MLS.

Fel Pro is one of the most trusted brands I have ever bought from. Everytime I buy a gasket it is felpro. Unless your going for huge performance gains fel pro is fine. If your shooting for like 500-600 WHP then get a cometic MLS head gasket.

The fel pro is your better option if your just looking to fix the car to be your DD or Weekend toy.

The Multi Layer Steel HG needs both your block and head resurfaced by a good machinist.

If your head gasket failed it was due to a combination of factors. Improperly Installed, Old and Worn out, Bad Quality Checker at the Factory, Other engine issues that lead up to the failure of the headgasket.

Most Common is Age Followed by Improper installation. Just make sure to clean the gasket surfaces and have the head and or block resurfaced. I have only seen 1 or 2 heads bad enough to need to be resurfaced for a standard composite (not metal) fel pro headgasket in 5 years of doing engine work.

i just had my head off. i did the oem mitsu 4 layer metal, and arp studs. with 2 coats of copper spray. one light coat and then one heavy before i put it on. sealed up great. the car runs amazing. I only resurfaced the head. I took a razor to the block and it seemed to work just fine.

I have Fel-pro gasket going on my car tomorrow. I'll be running 20-25psi. I have ARP head studs.

Fel-pro is a very popular gasket with the domestic guys.

I'll torque it down in steps, then heat cycle, retorque, and then mount the VC for good.

alright well i think i will go with the fel-pro because i dont plan on getting my car past 350 hp but i will probably end up changing the headgasket to a cometic before then.

Felpro dose have a great product... just make sure that the block is clean and the right surface finish is on the head for the gasket...

check your other thread fo info I posted there.

Seems to be the trend but, I'll have to put in another good word for the Fel Pro HG...I've used two on my car. Once when it got it's rebuild, and after i timed it wrong and thought I bent some valves. The first time I pulled the head off it still looked brand new.

Edit: AutoZone should have that same HG for 5 to 10$ less, got mine there for 29$ and some odd cents.

why chance it with a $25 head gasket holding 25-30 psi. Its a lot of work replacing something so important just to have it fail.

I currently have a felpro on my car. Of all the parts i worry about failing, ( center diff, 3rd or 4th gear stripping, broken axles), the headgasket is very low on the list. I have an o ringed block waiting to finish up and go in my car, guess what gasket is going on it.
