Ok I've recently aquired a stock set of evo 9 mr fuel injectors, stock fp, and a stock evo 8 turbo from a friend who upgraded to a fp red. I also found a plate to adapt the evo flange to the stock t25 flange.
My question is, has anyone run a evo 8 turbo on a dsm and if so how did it work out for you........ Not sure if its even worth doing but im curious.

you can run the evo8 turbo on a dsm BUT its not a bolt on like the e316g or 16g or 20g. you need to get a tubular evo 8-9 exhaust mani and rotate the turbo flange 180degrees so everything lines up(due to the intake manifold tb flange being on the opposite side of the engine bay as compared to a dsm) and use an evo o2 housing and dp flange. its not really worth the effort imo

If you are still going to use that turbo you might want to start thinking of removing the power steering and relocating alternator because they are going to be in the way of the intake pipe

I am rotating it 180, with a adapter i found online. The adapter makes it so the evo8 flange bolts up to my dsm manifold.

this is only true if he doesn't rotate the turbo 180degrees.

It came with the o2 housing as well. My biggest concern is with clearence to the radiator. The turbo is made to tuck under the evo mani, so turning it 180 would in therory make it stick out. Possibly causing clearence issues.

Not to mention that the wastegate actuator will be on the back side of the turbo as well. Definetly sell it and pick up a evoIII 16g.

I'm playing around with the same idea right now.
The turbo is cheap, so worst case, buy it, play around with it, make it work/sell it. I need a fun project for the summer anyhow.

is that the flange adapter you were talking about?

I already have the slim fans on my rad, and it might take a custom outlet to the intercooler, but we'll see how it goes.

The concern I'm having now is whether or not the down pipe will line up with the o2 housing...?

You'll have better luck mounting the Evo VIII or IX turbo to a camel than a 2G DSM....although I do see you're a non-turbo, so there may be more clearance.
The turbo is cheap...
...for a reason. They only fit Lancer Evolutions.

The fans will have to go, the rad will have to go. The downpipe will have to be about 2 feet longer to get anywhere near the outlet of the o2 housing.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats just the thing I was looking for! You should permalink that and show it to EVERYONE else who is thinking of doing just this!
I knew the turbo would stick out, but wow, i never imagined that much. So, the slim fans are worthless, the rad MIGHT fit, but the down pipe and angle on the outlet from the compressor housing is all over the place.

thanks for that jusmx, much appreciated!! Given all the traffic in toronto, i kinda need the big rad and fans.

oh, and i was planning on this for my GSX, not the GS there.

This is with the turbo mounted like a traditional DSM turbo with the inlet on the passenger's side. Of course you could mount the turbo like a traditional Evo where the inlet would be on the driver's side, but your power steering would have to go away and the alternator would need to be relocated....a lot of work for just a 16G upgrade.

The downpipe would also be fuct-up....our oil pans are cut for the downpipe to be more on the driver's side. If you ran the turbo with the compressor inlet on the driver's side, the o2 housing and downpipe could very well run right into the bell housing....so this may not work at all.

Right, and your GSX would provide similar issues....but I never really considered the Evo VIII or IX turbo to be a GREAT possibility for a 420A DSM turbocharger.

Obviously nobody makes a manifold, but if you could find someone to do some fab work for you, it wouldn't be too difficult to get a cheap Evo header, cut the Evo head flange off, and weld on a 420A head flange after making a few adjustments.

The Evo VIII and IX turbo can be found in great shape for around $150, and it already has the inlet on the driver's side of the car (favorable for a 420A) with a downfiring compressor discharge that is perfect for FMIC piping.

I'm waiting for someone to do this....if my 420A wasn't my reliable daily driver, it would have an Evo VIII 16G on it. :hellyeah:
