i have a 91 eclipse 1g rear end and turboed engine with new tranny and transfer case. how hard would it be to pretty much turn a 94 talon automatic front wheel drive non turboed into a turboed awd manual. i have engine tranny rear diff and all rear end parts. just no front end parts from 91 eclipse. front end parts on the 94 match up to the 91's awd tranny?? or not?

Its ALOT of work. One more time, ALOT. Unless you have a lift, a person experienced with swaps, and alot of time and more money, then it may take you forever. You need to get a Manual pedal assembly, shifter and all shifter cables, wiring harness, and alot more. Most people will tell you to find a manual car to save time, but its your call.

I would venture to say it would be more of a headache to consider the FWD to AWD conversion than the automatic to manual conversion, even if you do have all the AWD parts. From the comparatively little reading I've done on the subject, my understanding is that such a rear end swap is not simply bolt-on.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as motor fitment, that should go in just fine. And the 91 transmission will work fine too. But when it comes to the manual swap, be sure to get the correct shifting pieces. I don't know if 90s are the oddballs, or if it's 90-91. There are plenty of threads on here describing the differences between the transmissions (shifter arm lengths), shifter cables, and shifter assemblies.

I may be wrong on this but didn't most of the 94's come with 7 bolts? Also depending on the build date of the 91 you may have the oddball 90 style engine and trans. Some early 91's came with 22 spline output shafts and transfer cases and I believe the older ignition components too. I've only seen the AWD conversion completed one time here on the forums. Its definitely not just a bolt on operation and if I remember right it took a lot of fabrication and a lot of work. Its most definitely doable but just know what you're getting into before you attempt something like this.

94s cars came with the 7-bolt which is a 92.5+ engine. The 6-bolt is a 90-92.5 engine.

I actually just helped one of my buddies swap his laser from a n/t to a turbo engine and it was quite easy. I'm not sure on the rear of the car but i'm thinking the gas tank and everything is gonna be different if you try to sway. The AWD tank is behind the rearend and the FWD is in front of the rearend. So you would have to fix that.

If you want info on how to do it PM me and i will see if i can get you in contact with him. Or just search like hell on this website.

If you have the engine, trans, and rear from an awd car, you'd be better off selling your n/t and buying an awd rolling chassis. If your n/t is in decent condition, you could see 15-1800 out of it, sell the rear for a couple hundred and buy a decent roller.

+1. This would be the easiest route to take.

how hard is it to switch my non turbo to a turbo car? i wus told you have to change the front supprt bar cause the tranny hits it

Hi,
here in Europe the AWD DSMs are VERY rare. So many people have thought about a FWD -> AWD conversion. (It realy is a conversion and not a simple swap) In a 2G this isn’t such a bad thing but in the 1G you will have massive problems because the FWD isn’t prepared for the prop shaft.
Get a AWD chassis and forgot about a FWD->AWD conversation.
