I believe this has been asked before, but I was unable to find a conclusive answer.

So my question is, if I want to install the 97 and up CAS in a 95/96 head, what would I need? Is it just a simple bolt up and swap spark plug wires and injector triggers at the ECU?

Your best bet would to buy a 6 bolt swap harness, I bought mine from JNZ Tuning. Find a 1g CAS voila bolt it in and forget about it...Just make sure you center the CAS to get a fair base timing. If you have some sort of logger I'm sure you'll be able to monitor your timing.

ah I had the wrong impression that the 95/96 intake cams were already threaded for the passenger side CAS bolt. Are there any ways to invert the 95/96 CAS signal to use with the H8 ECU?

If you need a 97+ intake cam I have one laying around and I am only about an hour from you. You will need a pigtail from the 97+ wiring harness to plug the CAS in. I would just do a 6 bolt CAS and be done with it.

This DSM link post tells you what to do:

installed 97-99 ecu in 95-96

QUESTION

All i have to do to make the car run is swap the coil pack trigger wires, BUT in order to make this run perfectly wount i need to also swap the injector wires (as shown here RRE Instructions ) to componsante for inverted CAS that the 95-96 CAS is in comparison to the 97+ CAS that the 97 ecu is used to reading?

should i swap the wires as stated
Green: Pin 1 is now 14
Green w/ yellow stripe: Pin 2, is now Pin 1
Green w/ red stripe: Pin 15, is now Pin 2
Yellow w/ black stripe: Pin 14 is now Pin 15

or backwards from this as the CAS is inverted backwards from what this was written for?

ANSWER:

The wire swaps you listed are for a 1G CAS or '97+ cam sensor with a '95-'96 ECU. You are doing the opposite so the wire swaps would need to be reversed:

Yellow w/ black stripe: Pin 14, is now 1
Green: Pin 1, is now 2
Green w/ yellow stripe: Pin 2, is now 15
Green w/ red stripe: Pin 15, is now 14.

Are there any ways to invert the 95/96 CAS signal to use with the H8 ECU?

I'm unsure how the different year cams are setup on the 2Gs.

1) If possible use 1G CAS or 97-99 CAS and CrankTrigger.

2) JeffO from DSMChips has modded 98/99 ecus for a 95-96 Inverted CAS, don't know if he has found anyone to test it yet though.

3) Build your own signal inverter -> RRE Instructions

I've been working on a software fix, but haven't found anyone close to me to test things yet.

Edit:

Swapping wires with a 98/99 ecu in a 95/96 doesn't always work well. (Wish it did)
The 98/99 ecu are more sensitive and the funky CAS signal causes problems.
Usually low RPM engine vibrations and knock occur.

Thanks Ceddy, I gathered that swapping the wires is very hit or miss with 2ga cars from reading your H8 ECU thread. A software fix or ECU hardware fix would be the most user friendly, but that's obviously more work for you and JeffO.

This is really the only thing holding me off from getting the flashable ECUs over an EPROM with DSMLink. I would really like to have the finer boost control through the ECU than having a mbc. I'd gladly help you to test the software fix if only you weren't 4 hours away.
