Illegal Or Not?

I was going to purchase clear taillights for my eclipse but I heard they were illegal. But what if I put in the red bulbs instead of the clear ones that come with it? Would that make any difference?

the clear ones are illegal...at least in alberta, canada anyway..altezzas should be legal...but they are ***..

even thought the clears are illegal...its a cheap ticket, 25 bucks or so

i think as long as u got colored bulbs for brakes and turn signals u should be fine. peter

i know around here your supposta have colored in turn signal and brake....but i know of at least 5 or 6 cars (including one extremely riced neon) that have totally white back lights. i dont think the cops really care

neon's, cavalier's and other cheap american cars' interior and exterior shouldn't be modified in any way. You can try your hardest but they will still look cheap, cheassy, and ricey.

As far as I know, All the clear tails are illegal no matter what color bulbs you put in because there are no red reflectors in them in case you have the lights off or a bulb is burnt out. Most altezza style taillights are completely legal if they have a DOT stamp on the lense.

Illegal. Most cops overlook them though unless you are causing trouble. AT least by me.

I guess it depends on whether they're DOT approved or not. i.e. I've heard apc makes legal headlights/taillights.

how about if you save some money for clear tail lights and buy more speed mods???

Yea, I can see your point about cheap american cars, since civics, integras, and celicas have the most class of all cars on the road. I've never seen one look cheesy or ricey before.

Most posts are right, if it has a DOT stamp, you're good. If it doesn't the cops have a reason to pull you over...not that they will, but if they ever get the itch, they WILL have a legal right.

the point here is... if a tail light is WITHOUT DOT approved, then the cop can give you a fixing ticket, the cop might just give you a fixing ticket even if it's DOT approved anyway, but you'd still have something to fight with.

this is true for people who live in california. it doesn't matter if the tail light is DOT approved or not, if a cop doesn't like it he will give u a ticket. but the court's only concern is if there are red reflectors and turn signal must blink amber. *this means that the lens covering it does not have to be amber, just as long as it blinks amber. even if the tail lights are not dot approved the judge will focus on the fact if there are red reflectors or not.

that is a reason for the cops to pull you over here, they would rather pick fights with people for having stuff on thier car then go bust someone for murder..

heheh we were talking abt tail/corner lights.... yeah i know hyperwhite are good for head but thats abt it. my bro owns a Aftermarket car part store... and the cops always give us &(*^ abt selling blue hyperwhite corner bulbs to people or tail light bulbs ^^; they calmed down after we say "well we warn them... as you can see we are only trying to make 2 bucks."

In the state of Indiana you have to have a red lens in the brake/taillight. However the law never states the size of the red lens. I VERY rarely use this to stop someone but it is a reason...When I'm not catching murders and such.
