Hi,

New to this forum because I just switched from an 89 MR2 NA to a 90 Eclipse GSX. Anyways, I've had a couple of problems that I hoped the guru's here could help with.

1) Intermittently after I start the car the RPM jumps from about 1,200-800, constantly. The car sounds like it's going to die but doesn't and if I give it some throttle it starts to die even more. If I add throttle and hold it at about 2k then release after about 10 seconds it's fine. Any ideas?

2) Another intermittent prob, everytime I shift there's a weird kind of grinding/slipping sound coming directly in front of me where the belts are. It only occurs after I have the gear engaged and slowly slip the clutch. Also, it only happens after I've run the car for a while. Doesn't happen after I start the car in the morning. Is this just belt slippage which needs adjustment or replacement? Or is this timing belt related?

3) There's a slight oil leak by the Oil Cooler. Is the culprit worn out oil cooler lines? Other?

4) Last, rattling noise coming from the back, near rear panel. Seems to only happen when I go freeway speeds.

All suggestions and info are greatly apprecaited. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link I found out about one of my issues, "The Infamous Hot Start".

Thanks!

When was the last time you got the timing belt checked? My car was 1 mm front being toasted. Just a new belt for me. The car ran really badly and had real bad idle surge until I got the belt replaced w/ the tensioner too.

answer to 4.

Learn to turn up the stereo, this is the most common 1g trait. Hey, could be worse, like a grinding noise when slipping the clut... wait, sorry.
