i got 5 quarts of mobil 1 extended performance 5w-30 and a mobil 1 mobil 1 extended performance oil filter for 30 bucks at advanced auto parts ( its on sale!) and i want to know if it really lasts 15,000 miles like it says. i dont trust it for over 5,000 but if anyone uses it or has any info on it that would be great
thanks guys

Most people don't know that when you buy synthetic, it last well over 10,000 miles. But I guess some people just have to much money to spend on oil. Read the label in back of the bottle. Royal Purple, Castro Syn, Mobil Syn. They say it's good up to 15,000k miles.

I know thats what they say, but if you do some hard launches or go to the track, should you just replace it say every 5000 miles. That is what my friend does, he runs royal purple in his 3kGT VR4 and replaces it every 5k, just to be safe, he is a bit of a spirited driver.

Those statistics are based on N/A engines in ideal conditions even though they state the oil is for turbocharged engines. Mobil 1 is closer to a blend than it is a full synthetic. There are VERY few pure synthetic oils out there and even those are hard up to last 10,000 miles. The problem with oil is not whether or not it breaks down because I agree that oil doesn't break down at 3,000 miles. It's the dirt and combustion that kill an engine. They get into the oil and scratch bearing surfaces and cause wear. If you want to change your oil once a year that is fine but I would be changing the filter about every 2,000 then to make sure that you keep from getting a major buildup of dirt and whatnot in the oil.

To my knowledge there are only 2 TRUE synthetic oils. Amsoil of course and Castrol 0w-30 European Blend. Mobil does make a full synthetic oil but it is not available here for some reason. Comes in a shiny gold bottle. Just check the grade of oil, anything grad 1-4 is still mineral or hydroprocessed. Even though Mobil 1 lists only 1-3 as these and says grade 4 is a full synthetic, it is not.

Isnt royal purple a true synthetic? I think there are few grade 5 oils in Europe like elf but not 100% sure.

Royal Purple was downgraded recently I believe because they use a base 3 oil. Red Line also makes one of the only grade 5 true full synthetic motor oil.

im using Greddy brand oil from ExtremePsi I just Trust the company over these big ones like Mobil-1,Castrol,or Royal Purple.....
And there is another brand Eneos ,i never used that before,But i read alot about it and it seems a really good product, its a lil pricey, but worth of money i guess...
