Ok so i stripped my old timng belt and bent some valves. Had the head rebuilt with new valves, guides, etc. ARP head studs and cosmetic oem headgasket. I also installed some cams while it was apart.DKS 264/272. Put a new timng belt on and put it back together. All the timng marks were lined up and the car uns good. However theres a fair amount of vibration at idle and if i get on it past 3000rpm theres significant vibration in pedals and car. When i installed the timng belt i didnt mess with the balance shaft belt. Is it possible that my bs is out of wack and causing the vibration. Will it harm my car if i drive it like this. Im keeping it out of boost and under 3500rpm's. Thanks any info would be appreciated.

You sure you have the oil pump properly aligned?

If you have balance shafts the oil pump needs to be in sync with the crank.

Im fairly sure everthing is in time with eachother. After 6 rotaions all the timing marks line up. I didnt stick a screwdriver in the hole in the back of the block to check the bs when i was installing the timing belt.Stuiped me. Should i tear it down and recheck everything and make sure my bs is inline. Thanks

im sure someone can correct me if im wrong, but i think the oil pump can be misaligned even when the timing marks line up, because it spins 2x as fast as the crank, so you might need to rotate it 360 degrees.

I dont have balance shafts so i never really worried about this, someone correct me if im worng.

If you have the bs removed do you still have to make sure the marks line up on the oil pump?

nope

You definately got the oil pump out of time. I have done this before, you need to remove the bolt on the back of the block and realign the oil pump balance shaft.

You and me are on the same boat.I also got a set of DKS 272'2 and got it all put together and same thing is happening! what a coincedence....

I have this same exact problem too! Does the exhaust also seem a bit louder than before because of this?

Anyone have a guide on how to properly align the oil pump sprocket when all other ones have been aligned? Like how to prevent it from moving?

The sprocket will fall counter clockwise when released on the timing mark.

The cams spin 2x RPM and it is in time with the crank, so rotating it 360* will do nothing, its non-hunting drive set. Opposed to a hunting which doesn't use the same teeth/gear on gear contact every rotation.

A little more detail.

Hold the oil pump sprocket with the timing mark at 12 o'clock and release it. If it falls counter-clockwise, it is in phase. The timing mark should be close to the mark on the front case, but not exact, so just line the two up and wrap the belt around. The sprocket will naturally sit in this position so you don't have to worry about it moving on you. Just make sure to keep it lined up when wrapping the belt.

If it falls clockwise, it's out of phase. Rotate it around 360* and try again. Repeat if necessary to get it to fall counter-clockwise.

Thanks for that info! So basically you do it as normal but if it fall clockwise you redo it, until it falls counterclockwise. Just wondering, but why is it that it falls clockwise and counterclockwise at times? Just trying to figure it out in my mind how it works.

I've done the same thing before.
You CAN keep the timing belt on while doing this.
Take everything off, align the marks and ziptie the belt to the cams, and get someone to hold the belt if you can.
Undo the tensioner pully to get slack on the right side(make sure someone is holding everything so nothing moves.
Put a wrench on the sprocket and spin it around 360 like mentioned above. (it may catch a bit on the teeth, just do it gently until you get it all the way around and line up the mark again.

I did It with no extra hands.
Good luck

You did all that work to the head and was right there and did not install a new balance shaft belt? I would put a new one in just so I knew it was replaced and it will only take a few more minutes while you have it torn down this weekend. Peace of mind knowing it is done.
