Boost leak tested my gsx yesterday and found that my BOV was toast,, got a buddy whose Evo is off the road for now due to a engine rebuild and let me barrow his BOV,, the car is running a lot better but theres still a leak coming from the intake manifold itself. its the middle section between the intake metal elbow and the intake manifold itself. ( where the top three vacume lines are

the leak itself is down underneath,, i can barely reach it with my middle finger from behind ....

so my question is do i take the four bolts out and clean this section? ( oh the section im talking about has the throttle spring/line hooked up to it and if you try to move it back and forth it stops the leak )

do you think its a gasket leak in there?

the cars running good but not to its full potential

thanks for the help ahead of time:thumb:

its a 95 gsx btw

Just to be on the safe side you should just go ahead and take the throttle body off. Then clean it and replace the old gaskets with new ones. If you have the time and money it wouldn't hurt to get the throttle body seals replaced.

ok thats the avenue i thought i might have to go down

can you recomend a gasket kit?

and ive got a repair manual and the tools ill need to do it but should i watch out for anything when taking it off and or reinstalling it?

thx:thumb:

i recommend going with ExtremePSI. They have both inner and outer TB gaskets and the TB seals. It sounds like the seals are leaking, replace them.

If you can get OEM gaskets from the dealership then get them. If your going by your manuall then you should be fine. The throttle body may be a little stuck on there, get a rubber mallet and tap it a few times. Do not try to pry it apart.

As stated above sounds like the throttle body shaft seals are leaking , very common.

Replace the seals , and gaskets , and a great tip is to use a rubber mallet as stated!

Here is a link to replacing the seals : TB Shaft Seals VFAQ

Having done this many times here are a few suggestions.

- Mark the throttle body spring before you take it off , so you can get it coiled back correctly.

- Be very careful not to strip the butterfly screws , this is very easy to do with a crap screwdriver.

- Seals don't always sit correctly , be patient it is very easy to ruin a seal forcing it in.

Best of luck.

i just did my tb shaft seals, really not too hard! i went ahead and got the actual seals instead of the o-ring thing because almost every1 i talked to said their orings started to leak. i couldnt find a actual tb elbow gasket around here without it being shipped so i just caefully cleaned the old ones and put a little tiny bead of rtv on both sides and put the gaskets back. oh yeah and the screws that hold the throttle plate was not hard for me to get out. people had me kinda scared about those little tiny screws but what i did was gathered every phillips screwdriver i had and put em all in the screw to see what fit best. 1 out of my 10 screwdrivers fit perfect, put it down on a bench and put all my force down onto them, no problem came right out!

my throttlebody was filthy! so i took the sensors off of it and dunked the whole t/b in a little tub of gasoline (probobly the cheapest cleaner u will ever find!) let it sit for like a hour and then came back to it and dunked it up and down a few times, stuff was still coming out of my t/b so after i was done dunking it, i precisely sprayed it off with a can of carb cleaner. its probobly the cleanest part under my hood now :D

I just carefully cleaned the old ones and put a little tiny bead of rtv on both sides and put the gaskets back.

Agreed the o-rings are inferior the seals .

I too have used RTV in lew of having the gasket.

:thumb: Good job not stripping those screws out.
