So im an 18 year old living in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and im starting to think i got a little in over my head..

I love my 98 Gst, and her mileage was at 181k.. She was slowly dying so we decided to tear her apart. I hold somekind of value to her, She was my first car. And some other stuff, and no1 else seems to understand why i want to keep my dsm so damn bad.... Well, the engines out and the block head and crank are all about ready to come home from the machine shop....

A rust hole formed in the strut tower so i hit it out .. Welded a patch and bondoed it.. Well waiting for it to dry i keep thinking of everything that could go wrong with my build..

This is my first rebuild. and im doing a stock rebuild. And i started at end of September.. so it has only been like a month and half if that... though it feels like forever.. And my mom and others say its not possible for me to finish this project.. Are they right? I have friends who are mechanics and they been helping and i been learning alot as i go...

So someone please set my mind back to the way it was when i began this project.... :banghead:

Man you'll be fine. I started to think like you a while ago with my AE86 engine rebuild. My advice for the build. Organize EVERYTHING. Label all the parts you take off, even if you think it's not necessary. I still don't know if I'm gonna finish my AE86, but my mom says the same thing to me, "THAT'S NEVER GONNA GET DONE." Yeah well that should just be more motivation to prove her wrong. The day I get my AE86 running is going to be a good day man. DSM engines are easy, I have faith in you that you can do it. Just have someone there to guide you with your build and you'll be A-okay!
Best of luck- Scott

Only way you won't finish is if you just stop working on it. If you worry about everything that COULD go wrong with the build, then you're going to have no fun. Instead, trust your abilities adn the abilities of your friends and think of how much fun it's going to be to drive when you have it done, by yourself, and done right.

BTW, what part of pittsburgh are you in? I'm over by the University of Atwood st if you know where that is (right by the Cathedral of Learning).

yah, but idn i know its been a month ha but i got alot of progress done now that i think about it in such a short time..

And running out of money isnt helping ether considering all the little extra parts i want done..

I live in plum - Right next to monroeville..
and i know where that is. I use to go up pitt all the time last summer and had my eclipse up there. Not many 2gs around pittsburgh area lately.

How much can your mom know anyways shes just a mom

Anyways when i was 17 I rebuilt my first car ever, a 91 Talon AWD. Never had i touched a motor in my life but still went at it.

Took me about 3 months but i kept looking forward. I ran into so many problems bieng at car that had been abused for somemany years. But when people asked me who did the work and i could say i did it. It makes it all worth it

I've had my honda in the garage on lifts for going on 2 years now. For the first year I had a very low income job (only worked a couple days a week) and went to school (high school) 5 days a week obviously. I got 1 day a week to work on the car if I was lucky. I still got a lot done that first year and still almost had it completely torn apart, machined, and rebuilt, turbocharged, fuel work, interior and gauges, and tuned in that year. Haven't been home for a year now so it just kind of sits, but I got through it just because I knew how much I had put into it already and knew how far I got with how little I had, and was ready to put it on the road to see all my hard work going down the track.

Not many cars at all here really. There's a couple 3000gt's but basically stock N/A form, there's 1 N/A 2g I think and If i remember right it looks like it had a run in with a curb, there's a handful of evo X's I see from time to time stock, and 1 black 8 and silver 8 that are slightly modified. That's about it around here except for the occasional honda. I knew the scene here wouldn't be what it is in Cincy and Cbus Ohio, but didn't think it'd be dead.

I just moved from chicago to denver and out west there doesnt seem to be much hype at all like back home.

Kind of a drag when you cruise and there is no one out EVER huh

Yeah I just miss the car shows. Even though most of the people are 16 year olds that don't know anything, just going around scoping out the cars and getting ideas from those who do know things was fun to me. I miss that some
