already then... well i guess i will get a cat so i can pass the smog for that... i have a test pipe and i KNOW it wont pass but i was thinking it wouldn't pass with the EGR blocked!
guess ill look for a cat thanks guys!!
Being OBD1, as long are you don’t have a check engine light, I would assume they would test it the way they do in Ohio. Which is by spinning the car and testing the tail pipe, making sure you have a cat with a mirror on a stick, and checking your gas cap pressure.
If you had OBD2, they would hook up with a computer and not even run the car.

ok see this is more along the lines of what i needed to hear.. now that i go back and reread all the post not one of them states anything about the smog test!!
here in the bigger cities of texas they smog cars and test the exhaust gases!!
Well both zhjiln and I are from California; by far the strictest state for emissions standards and smog. Yes you will fail for the visual. Understand that the EGR system is an emissions related component put on the car for a reason. It's sole operation is to lower NOx and reduce cylinder head temperatures. Though I don't know the standards for Texas, I'm pretty sure it's federal law not to tamper with emission controls hahah. Oh well! Like stated, if they don't do visuals then hey, leave it be. Either way, they're not going to check for it's operation...that would take too much time for them to do. As long as it looks okay, then it's alright.
I've gotten mine inspected, which includes the smog test, 3 years in a row here in Texas w/o an EGR valve or a charcoal canister. Yes you are supposed to have it but I've never failed the smog test without it.
Heck the 1g 1.8 L dsm's came from the factory with EGR blockoff plates. Thats what I got mine off of.
Personally I wouldn't sweat it, if you want to block off your EGR, just do it.
you can pass smog without a cat and without an egr as long as your car is running good. I mean yea they will check for a cat but just use something that looks like one. like this

AND by the Way... i HAVE the egr blocked off already.. i got it like that!
i was wondering if it would pass here in austin or i would have to open my pocket more to pay some one off! ( i know a place)
AND ALSO the look under the hood i think just so the camera in the place sees them.. cause my roomie got his done and they just popped the hood and didn't even look at it!

Haha, well as part of a certified smog technician 1) they're supposed to do their job 2) they're supposed to do their job CORRECTLY! As far as I know a visual is performed nationwide and as per federal law the I/M240 test is conducted. Failing either one and you won't be issued your certificate. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and your guidelines over there are far less strict than ours.
Good luck if you're gonna run catless for smog skater! You never know lol
