Got the motor out, what to check on the tranny?

I got the motor out of my 95 TSi 5spd, it's being replaced. I managed to get the motor out with leaving the tranny in the car. Is there anything I should inspect or check on the transmission while it's all hooked up?

Check or replace the clutch to start. Check the throw bearing (I think that's what its called IIRC) also.

wouldn't hurt to change the oil in the tranny and put new rear main seals in..... easier to do it now then later.

Yep, clutch is shot, still works but won't handle the 16g with a properly running motor. Flywheel is getting re-surfaced as well. The TOB is sitting in place very well and seems to be pretty clean, clutch was changed 2 years ago according to service records.

Hmmm good idea. Rear main seal will be replaced during the motor rebuild (previous block was shot, threw a rod out the side of the block!)
