weird clicking sound coming from near windshield

I've got this nice little click when I have the car on...could this be the lifter tick? It sounds like it comes from the driver's side in front of the windshield. I just want to make sure before I go off and start messing with everything.

Thanks!

Like they have both said def. sounds like a lifter is ticking. Not too many other things will sound quite like that.

just like everyone else said i think it your lifters too, not too sure so dont quote me on this but i think those lifters are hydraulic so when the motor is cold its going to tick until it gets warm, perfectly normal man dont loose your sleep over it lol

Sorry, but it's not "perfectly normal" for the lifters to tick until it gets warmed up.

These lifters are notorious for ticking and alot of times I've noticed an oil change will remedy the situation and/or changing to a different kind of oil or a different weight can also help.

I went from 10w30 to 5w30 and I think that could have a lot to do with it. I've got a thing of Lucas Oil Stabilizer...so I'm going to go on and run that in tomorrow.

*sigh*

I went to an Autozone today...and the guy asked me why I didn't want to put a VTAK head on my DSM. Kids these days >.>

Yeah, you might just have to play around with what oil/weight works for you. Sometimes you get lucky and just something as easy as changing the oil can make these lifters quiet down while other times there's just no choice but to change out the lifters. Good luck

P.S. You know you wouldn't have this problem if you would have put on that VTAK head.

I put in a quart of that Lucas Oil Stabilizer and the clicking stopped. Woot woot. Thanks a bunch guys for all of your help!

*sigh* I've also got a few more issues and I'm starting to get a little broken down by them. I'm not going to get rid of my DSM at all. Oh hell no. I just don't really know where to start with repairs and whatnot. I've been searching the forums...but for some reason it's just not clicking, really.

I think I'm running pretty rich. I've got a nice trail of white smoke coming out of the back. It just started after this weekend. I replaced the clutch master and slave, the starter, and ran Lucas injector treatment. I'm kind of hoping that white smoke is coming from the Lucas. I also can't fill my tank up all the way without it leaking out. I can usually go to 3/4 tank safely. Once I fill it up, though, I smell gas pretty strongly as I am driving. Finally...I have a clunking sound from around the front driver's side as I brake. It slows down as I slow down as well. Could it be a worn rotor or the strut joint?

Thanks in advance!

Your lifters will tick due to contamination or dirt in the oil feed holes on the lifters. My best suggestion would be to change the oil and put a good quality filter on. If you have a fram filter, you're asking for trouble. They are junk.

Sounds like the normal lifter tick. As morphius said, get yourself a good oil filter when doing your next oil changes from now on, you shouldn't even use cheapy brands anyways regardless, and use good oil, such as mobil 1, castrol gtx, or royal purple synthetic oils.
It might or might not not get rid of the tick but it will sure reduce it.
Your best bet would be to get 3g lifters as the stock lifters' hole is pretty small.
