14b cracks

Ok i picked up this 14b for $40 the other day and it has the usual cracks around the wastegate. It does need a rebuild, but I would like a second opinion if these cracks will effect anything, i think they will be just fine at running temperature. One other crack besides the ones around the wastegate concerns me though. You can see it is just a hairline and appears to be old, but any suggestions on that would be much appreciated. I would think it slows spool down, even though its small, it will leak...

Although 14b's have fast spool either way so its up to you to run it...

New 7cm housings sell on eBay for $75. In my opinion it's not worth the gamble...that one around the base of the turbine wheel goes the whole way through the housing.

Would you bolt a cracked manifold on your car?

I welded mine that was cracked there and it held fine for the few months that it was on the car. It was welded at the same time as my exh mani and I ran that thing for over a year with no issues and it was a HUGE crack.

See how much it costs to get it welded and determine if you would rather just buy another one. If you can weld then it is a no-brainer. Nickel rods with proper pre & post weld heat treatment and it will last forever.

It will cost more to HAVE it welded than an 7cm, but if he had the tools and skill to weld it himself then it might be worth it. The cranks around the wastegate look as though they will allow exhaust gas to bypass the valve compromising boost control. I wouldnt run that turbine housing!

I posted some pics awhile back of a hotside that looked like that. You will not be happy with the way it acts. That 14b will have turbo lag worse than you could imagine. I ended up purchasing a hotside off of jusmx141 but as he said Ebay!

Ok i think i might have be getting a 14b hotside from another member on here and have that ported. I hate doing things 50 times when i knew in the beginning that i should have just done it right. But then again, i did buy a dsm.....

Yeah id get a new housing as said! Those cracks look pretty nasty. New 7cm knockoffs are on ebay for $75 as mentioned, plus will give you more flow per psi with the larger housing. The 14b/7cm is a super fast spooling turbo capable of slightly over 300whp.
