:confused:ok so im pretty much a noob still so i need to know how hard is it to replace rod bearings in my gsx.

feed back

car had engine rebuilt by some mechanic. new rods, pistons, all bearings, rings, bored .020 and car ran strong for 4000 miles then it started knocking i beleive its a rod hes been an ass so i need to know should i sell this car or should i try to fix myself

ive been reading alot and seens like once a rod goes out mayb the crankshaft has damage too and the rod itself so any 1 good advice

buy some plastiguage at autozone, check the wear on the crankshaft. buy an oversized bearing to fill the gap. new oil, clean any metal out of the oil pan. make sure the headgasket is still good. i had to replace a bearing on my old eclipse that had a rod knock. had some wear on the crank so we bought an oversized bearing fit awesome. ran awesome for about 1/10 of a mile and then it knocked the new bearing to bits, turned out the HG leaked antifreeze into the new oil and worked as a helper to wear the new bearing.

so when you did all this you didn't notice any antifreeze in the oil. i changed the oil in my car and had a lot of shavings no signs of antifreeze tho

well if your rod is knocking it is best to turn around and rebuild the motor with new or resized rods and also have your crank turned

How much you like your car? Gsx are hard to come by where I live. If you can fix it, do it. If not, sell it. Keep us posted though.

You're not lying man. They go for like 8k where I live. I was lucky enough to get a GST shell for the low for the conversion.

OP it would be best to keep it and if needed sell the motor as is and buy another 1. Or just simply rebuild the bottom end.

i love my car which makes it harder to sell but i really cant leave it park much longer. so theres no other way to fix this with out taking the whole engine out

some guy is offering 2grand with out even looking at it is this a good deal???

$2k for the car? If so HELL NO! The best way to fix this issue is to pull the engine and take care of it.

If you spun a rod bearing the entire engine needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Every oil passage in the engine must be cleaned of thebearing materal. You will need to at least have the rods resized and a new crankshaft. Thn new bearings and a gasket kit to put it back together.

It would be best to pull the motor. I did this last night for the same reason. Took it down tothe complete bare block and I am getting a shop to hone the cylinder walls while I am at it. I am doing this now to make sure I get proper seating of the piston rings. If you pull it you might as well just do it while it out this time then have to wait till next time.
