maf translator help for a newbie

ok so i have this major problem maybe some one can direct me about it. to start out with im new to the dsm world i purchased a 97 eclipse gst spyder that needed new rod barrings upon getting it i decided it would be wise to have the whole engine overhauled and have the crank turned or replaced and so on well i dont knw anything really about this car i got it bc i was in need of a car and i was tired of hondas and wanted something new and would get enjoyment out of i paid a guy to pull the engine and take it to a engine shop where id have the work professionally done with a warrenty and so fourth 2700 dollars later i get the engine back in runs mechanically sound but has a idoling problem i get it home and realize the black box (translator box) isnt hooked up (this should be the idoling problem i have? ) i dont know about this box this is where i need you guys help for advice in hooking it up right and i can get it tuned id really apreciate all the help i can get bc i dont know what im doing i have a friend that semi knows but needs some guidance bc he has never seen a translator box like this bf HELP

You can see the GM MAF in the 2nd picture.


There should be two plugs coming off of that box. One will plug in to the GM MAF (the silver and black thing in your upper intercooler pipe) and the other will plug in to the stock MAS plug which comes from the wiring harness (7 wire wide plug, kind of looks like the plug in the last picture you posted of the power transistor).

Then plug in AUX = 4 and BASE = D and put everything else at 0.
 
yeah i was told i had to have a pocket logger i have one but it doesnt work when i got the car the guy gave me one but long story short didnt work like the car didnt work when i got it id like to be able to hook this box not using it then have it tuned
 
well does your translator has two plugs right?
because when i bought a maft from a guy here in dsmtuners he cut one of them so it made my life hard, so if you have two plugs it should be really easy.

well he has to set aux=4 and the base=2 for 450cc right?
 
All you need connected on the translator box is the two plugs that plug into the maf sensor, and the wiring harness of the car. The white wire is an RPM wire which can be hooked up if you plan on doing rpm based tuning with the translator. The purple wire is an auxilary wire, and almost never needs to be hooked up. Make sure you jumper switches are set for the right MAF, and it is NOT on rpm mode. Here is a manual for a 1g, but it is basically the same one they give with the 2g.

im not sure ill have to see today i have it a friends house since i live at a apt but ill find out i have a car pc that reads codes its spitting 8 codes two of wich are twice
mainly maf or vaf p circuit malfunction, evap emission c valve , EGR flow circuit malfunction , IAT Sensor circuit malfuntion, MAP /BARO circuit malfuntion
im hoping this is all or most of my problem bc of the translator box throwing em off

That would be correct, but his profile says he has Evo 8 injectors (560cc).

you guys i hate to break it to you but im a lady :D that might be some of my issues bc i dont know about it but im trying to i have two guy friends one of which who is a member on his with his eclipse he cant even figure the box out (sorry Drewbie) but he has a basic under standing i am really anxious to get in it and drive it but i have to address this idoling problem
 
Well, that's good to know!

This should be something you could handle yourself though. Just follow all of the wires and make sure they're plugged in to the two ends I mentioned above. Then pop the cover off the box, make the two changes above to the AUX and BASE switches, and you're set. If you want, you can take a picture of the unit with the cover off and post it up so we could verify everything is set correctly after the change are made.

Im so so sorry my Lady, all i need to know is if you have two plugs on your maft box, because after installing this box you will still have idleling problems is normal because you still need a fine tune which you can do with a datalogger, am i correct snowborder714?
 
ill get some pics and upload tonight on here so that i can verify if it has two or one conectors i know it says something like rev and a number and has like four dials and looks like a computer switchboard on the inside
 
ok so i just took a few more pics like you guys asked me to do i still dunno if its one or two looks like one but i do know it says bailey engeneering on it and its version 1.7 hope that helps out a lil bit and here are the pics lemme know what you think

I would double check the AUX and BASE setting in the translator vs. what I posted above (since I can't see their values), but everything else looks ok.

I believe I can see the stock MAS plug in the first picture in the background, so that looks to be hooked up. Double check that the GM MAF plug is hooked up.

A test for you:
Remove the Translator cover (4 screws). When the vehicle is Keyed-On, the 2 LEDs in the Translator will turn on for about 1 sec then go back off.
 
thats what i was thinking i dunno if drew said the light came on but i did get a stock maf sensor from a friend its missing the oval cuppling though hopefully now we know where to set the translator itll work it does come on but dont want to idol i sounds funny like it wants to idol but cant so ill see if this helps if not ill get back on here and tell you what it did
