Ok so I know my ins and outs of a DSM pretty well, having owned my DSM for about 5 months. I set a very timid goal IMO of 300hp and it seems fairly easy to acquire. I want to keep it small because I usually drive this as my DD apposed to my Camaro solely because of MPG and it's just all around fun to drive. Will I need to tune (that means buying everything to do so) just for 300hp? I have a parts list already made, and I have been devoting most of my car funds towards this new baby of mine instead of my Camaro. Just ask you if you need some more info or whatever. Thanks in advance. :)

You will need some sort of fuel control... and if you don't have injectors you will need some larger injectors. If you do not have a boost controller you will need a boost controller... and really to tune AT ALL you will want a wideband... there is no way around getting a wideband unless you want to just pay someone at the dyno every time your car needs tuned.

I hope that helps you out.

read up on an upgrade path for your power goal. you will have to tune your car. it's not hard to tune, so make sure you get all the proper tools before you just start throwing stuff on it.

I know all of this, all I was asking was if it was necessary to have all the tuning software when I don't plan on going above my goal. I have read the tuning guide and used it to base what parts I am getting, like I said I have a parts list already laid out.

I have a 190lph wally in store pretty soon, and maybe some 550's I've been told that the stock 450's will hold a T28 to 250-300hp though, I'm not so sure on how accurate my source was though. With a 190 I wont need a AFPR though will I?

So if I go about tuning, all I will need is a wideband? such as AEM's UEGO or something of the sort. I will also need a slotted ecu to right? Seems like much more work then what it should be. Sorry for any trouble but I'm so used to big displacement coming from the F-body world. :p

You will need something to tune with.... an SAFC2 will probably meet your goals just fine... but you're going to need a little larger injectors and a way of upping your boost.

If you're asking if you need to spend $650 on DSMLink then the answer is no. I would not get the AEM UEGO because it's got problems with it's signal output being different than it's gauge readout.

Look into the lc-1.

Oh yeah... you're GOING TO NEED a logger.

Wow, there's definitely more to tuning a DSM then a v-8. So the lc-1 wideband and a nice logger. I searched and the logger should work with my macbook right or is that another program. I have free access to a dyno all day if that will help.

Since you are a 1995 and might have an eprom, for a budget setup I would look into burning your own eproms using Tunerpro(free). You can get the definition file(xdf) and bin file from the DSMecuYahoo group. A burner ranges from $30-100 and chips are $5. Socketing the ecu is $60. This will give you full timing/fuel control, plus you're not "tricking" the ecu unlike other device(safc, maft, etc. Enable you to raise fuel cut and revlimits and some others.
I would highly recommend a wideband as well as a you'll need a logger(evoscan)

The thing with all of that is, I have no clue about logging on these cars and what not. Do you think It would be almost better to have someone on tuners show me my first time around if I get all the materials. What do you think a decent tuning setup will cost me, I was kind of hoping for under $500 because the tally on my parts lost is already pretty darn high.
