ok, all of these pics where taken at the same time, notice the edit job im good.....
either way, how can i resolve this without doing a timing belt redo...if its possable..
basically the tab that the guys put on the head when the headwork was done has fallen off into the timing belt and appears to have skipped the oil pump sprocket off some...
any help would be appreciated.

Put the dowel pins in the middle facing up, and the mark on the crank at top dead center. Then retake pictures. The dowel pins must be facing up to check timing..

notice any vibrations? i doubt the oil pump shaft jumped that far. Possibly didnt get it back correctly whenever you reinstalled the belt. Ive heard you have to rotate up to 6 times to get it back to TDC

from 3k+ it feels like the motor dont have an exhaust on it at all, tons O vibrations...

PS.... where are the dowel pins?

The Oil pump sprocket will only line up with the rest of the timing marks every 3 full turns of the crank. I think everything is 100% FINE

The dowel pins are on the cam gear right next to the bolt...they should be in the 12 o-clock position when checking the timing marks. That is TDC (Top Dead Center)

The little thing circled in red is the dowel pin

From the picture it looks to me like the oil pump sprocket is probably off a tooth or two. It should either be on the mark, or it may be 120 degrees off the mark in either direction, depending on how many times you turn the engine over if memory serves. Turn it a few more revolutions and see if it lines up.

ok here we go, dowels all face up (12 oclock)

You need to keep turning the crank and checking it. If you turn it 6 rounds and that sprocket has still never lined up, then it's not right. Most likely it's fine though.

I'm assuming you have balance shafts in the engine right?
He already showed a pic of the front balance shaft, showing that the mark lines up, so yes he has the BSs.

The oil pump sprocket never did align? Remove the belt. Turn the oil pump independently. It will line up eventually. If your leaving the belt on and it wont line up at TDC with the rest of the marks its off. Line up the oil pump sprocket then set the timing. Turn the motor over 6 revolutions. If it doesnt line back up something isnt right.

just got back in from the garage, had the wife watch the top as i turned and watched the bottom. went around a full 6 and it actually ended up exactly how it shows on my second set of pics. looks like the timing belt has to come off tomarrow so i can realign that damnd thing. arrg..

Odd.
Well then, get that fixed good sir.

Apparently the guys who did this job had NO idea what they were doing, if they did, they would know the oil pump sprocket needs to be timed as well, due to the Balance shafts being all interconnected to the oil pump sprocket.

ok so heres my makeshift plan, lemmie know if this is even possable.
loosen tensioner enough to get slack down there,
rotate the oilpump gear inline with the mark,
tighten tensioner back up...
rotate engine 6 times and see what it looks like..
i allready spent allmost 200 dollars on this job and havent fixxed shit LOL...

this is kinda what i had in mind to get this done w/o spending any more cash...

thats the story behind all this....
but ya, the timing belt is still new, but since i am having issues i probably should stick another new one in there just in case...

fun fun...

ahh i remember this. And as I recall i called the balance shafts then as well :thumb:

LOL its a good thing you figured out the problem now just fix it. Your idea looks good. Ive done this before makes life easier whenver your doing it by yourself w out help.

If you set the oil pump to TDC along with the other marks rotate it 6 times it should be in line. I dont see it costing you anymore money less the broken spark plug socket. What exactly were you using a standard socket on a dsm for other than the plugs :nono: WTF
