Ok so i was on my down down to my moms in quakertown. I was on the turnpike, car was running great, and then boom. A puff of smoke and the car shook. It completly died when it happend. So i have a couple questions.

1. Did i blow it up? I pulled the dipstick before my sister picked me up. The end of it was bent. Did something hit it? I pulled the valve cover too and nothing up top is damaged.

2. Can anyone in Quakertown help me out? Im 3 hours away from my home and pregnant gf. The car is still on the turnpike. I at least need to get it off very soon or else i will get fined.

Please help guys.

Is there oil or pieces of engine behind your car?

For question 2 go rent a car dolly and tow it back to your house yourself, should be alot cheaper than a tow from a rig.

No oil or anything under or behind the car. I stopped pretty quick because the was a little place to park. Well maybe not park since there was a no parking sign but it was off the road a little. As for the dolley, evryone said they would be expensive too.

I need a Honduhh. I need the reliabluility. I love DSM's but its damn near impossible to own one with little money. All the money i get goes into my dsm and it still breaks.

You cant really tell if anything internal is damaged by looking under the valve cover if your dipstick is bent at the bottom thats a pretty good sign something came loose in the bottom end

Yea thats what im saying. I am almost positve i blew it up. My lifters have always ticked but before it happend, it got louder. I thought it was because i was next to the wall that sepparated the two sides. Anyone have an idea as to what would have came loose? Rod?

Yeah dollys arent that expensive - i have a dolly and a trailer but your a little far from me sorry or i would help you out

+1 Renting a tow dolly is not that bad. Call U-Haul and see. Bring it home and drain the oil, look for metal, pull the oil pan and take a look as well. If it looks normal, see if your rods have any play.

anyone know about how much they will cost? i went to their site but u have to enter the veichle u are towing it with and i have yet to find someone to toe it for me.

A guy just rented a uhaul trailer to bring back a car from my house in PA and it cost him I believe around 100$ for the day so def cheaper than a tow. Goodluck man, I'm in philadelphia for school but I have no car I'd give you a hand.

Maybe what you were hearing wasn't a lifter tick, possibly rod knock and now the rod went? When you get it back home pull the oil pan and that should tell the story. Good luck!

Sorry I can't do much from here. Seems like the priority is to get the car off the interstate.
The bent dipstick sounds pretty ominous.
BTW: I've got a '94 Accord. I'm trying to sell it, but it won't stop breaking long enough for me to write up a listing on Craigslist. I'm (once again) stinking of oil, solvent and gas from rebuilding a part of that Accord that I didn't even know existed and definately didn't need to be so complex.
If you find a Honda old enough to be affordable, it might be prettier, but it won't be anymore reliable. If you can afford a Honda new enough to be reliable, you can also afford a small collection of NT2.0 Eclipses to pull parts and engines off of. Pregnant gf won't like that though.
If you do buy a Honda, do yourself a massive favor, and make 100% positive sure that the front brake rotors mount from the outside of the hub like a normal car, and not from the inside of the hub like a needlessly complicated '94 Accord.
Loud lifters>engine blew-up>bent dipstick...Was there any oil on that dipstick?

Yea there is oil on the dipstick, normal level. My moms bf knows alot about these. He had an avenger. He is also working on my sisters 87 RX-7. He thinks it electrical. Once again, not a drop of oil on the ground. It turns over too nice to have anything internal like a rod damaged. The car is here. U-haul charged $65 for a dolley. I bought a Haynes manual also. The car is doing the same exact thing as it did before when i swapped my friends 93 talons CAS into mine. It fired right up when i did that. And i put my CAS in his, his still ran. So i put mine back in my talon and it worked till maybe now. The puff of smoke i seen came from under the hood. Then I had the hood up and my friend said the terminals on the battery were smoking and i could see it as well. If i blew it up, and theres no oil leak or hole in the block so if there was any smoke from a blown motor, itd come out the tail pipe. Right? Need some advice. I might drop the oil pan IF we cant figure anything else out. I have hardly any money to put oil back in it and not to mension its a bi*** to take out.

the only thing you can do right now is drain the oil and pull the oil pan...hoping that theres no metal shavings
what color was the smoke?

The smoke was like a white. It was really quick, i mean if i blinked when it happend, i woulda never seen it. Same color as the smoke from the terminals.

Man didn't you just get this car running? Sorry to hear that bro but it's time like this that I am proud to be a AAA Gold member. :D They have towed my car everywhere. Every DSM owner should use it.

yeah I use it too. Towed my car 5 times in a month and a half and didn't cost me nothing. Only the yearly amount for the service!

dude if u end up needing a non turbo motor i have one that ill sell to ya. ill check it over tmrw but when i got it out of the car it still ran wit 130k on it but the body of the car was rotted out. from what i heard it was rebuilt but dont mark my word. but if anybody is interested send me a PM

How much would you sell it for? And how would i get it?

Yea i just got this running again. I fixed it without fixing it. That was the cheapest repair ever LOL. Im assuming its a sensor or electrical. Tomarrow, im at least going to drain the oil. I tried pulling the pan off last time and i got under and was like....wow. I tried unbolting the downpipe, the bolt snapped. Theres alot of things you have to remove just to get the pan off. Are our oil pan bolts magnetic? If anything is destroyed internally, there will be some metal flakes right? One of our dirt modifieds just had a rod go through the oil pan. I didnt even see any dings on the outside of the pan. And the dipstick that was bent didnt have any markings from something hitting it. It was just bent. After i drain the oil, what are some good things to check? If the CAS is bad, would the car still run? You can test the CAS right?

You should definately see metal when you drain the pan. If it starts fine and no knocking then I'd say your bottom end is fine. White smoke is usually from coolant or possibly electrical.

If it were me I would:

1. New oil
2. Do a compression test, start your car, run it somewhat hard, pull the MPI fuse so no fuel squirts out and disconnect your coil pack so you don't get shocked and make sure you have your throttle wide open when cranking, I usually crank about 5 times. Check this if you have any confusion.. Your spark plug may also be damaged if a rod came apart, the piston could've popped up and hit it if it came apart.

3. If you have good compression in all 4, no metal shavings in oil, I'd say you're car is fine.

My compression tester is up north. How much does it cost from advance or the zone to rent them? Ill pull the plugs. Also, if the valves are returning, could it be possible the rod was thrown out without damaging the valves?

It's possible, when mine threw a rod you could definately tell something wasn't right, meaning LOUD knocking. But you wouldn't really be able to tell if the valves are bent until you pull the head... I wouldn't think a compression tester would be very expensive to rent, I think at the Napa's down our way when we would rent tools they gave us almost all our money back when we returned them. You'll just have to check with them and what their policy is.

If your car starts fine with and only has your lifter tick as before and no excessive knocking noise I'd say your bottom end is fine, but a compression test will tell you if you have any problems.

Ill check on the compression tester tomarrow morning. I am determinded to fix this. Ive never had a problem i wasnt able to fix yet.
