HELLO!!!! :D I recently bought a 98 Eclilpse GSX for 6K.:hellyeah: it has 83XXX miles, the body has a few dings and scratches, but the intereior is awsome and the engine is perfect. Ive sold my previous 2000 GT so now I have some cash to play with for mods. Ive read the Stage 1, and 2 upgrade paths. I found this TDO5H turbo intercooler kit on ebay. ( eBay Motors: Turbo Kit Mitsubishi DSM Eclipse Talon 95-99 TD05 16G (item 400032810199 end time Feb-28-09 19:18:33 PST) )

I was woundering if it was even worth the hastle. im going to get a AEM true boost guage instead of the manuel, and different Oil feed, and return lines. but is everthin else legit? there all good names like HKS and stuff. but are the manifolds, turbos, intercoolers, pipes and all that good stuff......actually good?
im on a tight budget, and I want to do it right. so is this something worth chasing? or would it be better to buy from retailers like bonehead performance and people like that?

I dont know about the intercooler and stuff, but i recently got a big 16g off ebay and am pretty happy with it. Just dont trust the oil lines, mine leak like shit.

The ebay knock off turbos are a waste of time. Very few people actually have success with them. The best waty to look at is "Its a Several Hundred Dollar Gamble". You'd honestly be better off waiting on getting a real one, or get a good used one off the classifieds here.

The Intercooler kits are good, I've never heard any complaints about them.

i wouldnt use the turbo kit off of it my buddy had an ebay turbo and blew it in like 3 weeks on 10 psi in a 2g just get a 16g either brand new or a used one with few miles on it and you can get them pretty cheap but if you want i have a link that i can send you for an intercooler and the pipes for 300 bucks and thats all and im sure you can find a good used 16g for 2 or 300 bucks so you will have good quality stuff for around the same price

thanks bro. thats what I thought. so I was gona go and get another Oil feed/return line with water lines. think that would work?

Theres a couple of differences. I think the main difference is probably who its made by and the quality. Evo 3 16gs are supposed to be the nicest, they have the nicest flow pattern. some 16g's have boost creep problems.

The wheel that they use is not the same specs and quality as real evo3 16g. As well, many use aluminum journal bearing and not bronze, which will cause premature failure. i have heard they have much more lag. Nonetheless, a few people have had success and ran decent times. I would highly suggest getting the real deal. They can be had used for pretty similar price to ebay 16g and have that mhi durability and performance!

Don't trust ebay turbos as most of the time these tend to fail. As for a fmic on the link you posted, that is one expensive kit for a fmic and to top it off it's a long route. If you hold off a bit for about a month or so Mangina24 on this site will be coming out with a newly-redesigned fmic kit for 299 shipped and the best part is it is a true short-route system and will have the option of a j-pipe if you ever decide to go 16g or bigger.

Congrats on getting the GSX at such a good price! There's a group buy on the MHI Evo3 16g turbo in the vendor announcement's section of this website. If you're going to buy a 16g I would get a MHI (genuine Mitsubishi) built 16g since they have been proven to be tough, reliable, and put out good numbers. Forced Performance group buy:

Regarding other items I recommend purchasing from Fast Track Auto Services Send a PM to nikkeebabee on this forum. I believe he's the owner of Fasttrack Auto Services. His website may not be the most flashy or have the most parts listed, but Dan gives great customer service, he can get parts for you that aren't listed on his website, and his prices are hard to beat! Tell him I mentioned you and see if he remembers me. :thumb:
I also recommend Welcome To Extreme PSI or Slowboy Racing Both of these vendors have 16g install kits and other parts needed for your turbo upgrade.

Oh, and the AEM Tru boost gauge type boost controller is a great choice! Got mine recently and like it a lot.

Here's some good reading on the Chinese 16G's and why they fail:

They seem to be very hit-or-miss on reliability, but there are definitely more losers than winners when it comes to having one of these turbos last more than a few hundred or thousand miles.

Be sure you're planning on some type of fuel system upgrades in the near future if you're going with something as big as an Evo III 16G right off the bat. If you're not looking to go crazy with mods and tuning devices, you're probably better off with a 14B (stock turbo from a 1G), which will install with the same parts as the 16G so upgrading to a 16G in the future will be practically painless. There are plenty of good used 14B's out there that can be had for less than $150.

A 14b is a 300whp turbo. It's a solid upgrade to your current stocker. And they are cheap, and will force you to shop around for the 16g swap parts. It's a VERY health upgrade. The most underrated turbo ever.

you said that thats expensive for a FMIC? it seems reasonable. and for a long route you mean it goes in the middle of the intercooler and comes out the top of the intercooler? alot of people say those are better because the airflow doesent hug the bottom of the intercooler, and sifts through all of the intercooler using it to its best abilities. is that true?
