I have heard a small amount about these tuning programs, Also that thy cost a lot less than dsmlink, and are just as good. So if you use this please chime in, I would like ot know how it all works basically, and everything you need to run it.

there is a lot of info in dsm ecu yahoo group. use the search. you need a laptop. ostrich emulator ($175) socketed ecu ($50) datalogger($100). The files that are in the yahoo group with tunerpro will allow you to adjust your injectors, timing, afr, idle, and much more on the fly. If you learn the hex you can also do much much more which is in the yahoo group

Hahaha that thing is puny, he goes to my school, and no, thats a little bigger, holset hx35 to be exact, will be going on my awd when i buy it.

Go to ds-map.net. Read everything you can. go to sleep and reread it and it will all make sense. Basically, you need an ostrich, the chip, and the software and you can tune your car. All that for under 400 bucks with full support of speed density and many other features as well.

Start at that website first though. And read the how to articles.

Yea ive been on there for a year, and lofty's car is kinda ricey right now, sounds like it to, but it could havee potential if he does a 6bolt swap but we will see if he can pull it off. I have a fwd which was decently quick, but I need an awd for traction issues, aka 11.7 @ 123

You need a laptop, but they provide you with the CD containing the software. You can make live adjustments, add stutterbox, injector compensation, all those things I just mentioned, etc.
Tunerpro is the software for the Ostrich. I always use the scanmaster or wideband along with it while tuning to ensure I'm not running lean/ rich.

When you're done tuning and doing any live updates, you just upload the bin to the Ostrich, unplug the comp, and the Ostrich device stays in the car.

We also have a chip burner, so rather then keeping the Ostrich in there all the time, we can upload the maps and make a chip for it. I have one chip for running on E85 and one for 93.
You can also buy some of their software that allows you to switch between 2 separate maps: Which is what I plan on doing this summer to be able to switch between E85 and if I have to leave town, I can just run 93.

So basically you put the ostrich in the ecu rather than a chip, and can change it on the fly? Is it bad to keep it in there all of the time if I chose not to gt a chip burner and what would that require?

yes via the laptop, Then when you have a good tune set up you can burn it to chip and remove the ostrich

What would be a downside to keeping the ostrich in the ecu instead of burning chips?

You can change it on the fly. Just unplug the USB from the comp and the Ostrich device stays in the comp. That is the memory. So if you want to take that out, you would have to burn a chip.

There isn't really any harm in leaving it in there. Just if you're too lazy to tuck it in with the ECU area, then it's in your passenger's feet's way.. LOL

So the ostrich is like a rewritable chip which you can change at any time if it is in the ecu, but why do you choose to burn a chip? Wouldnt it be better to be able to change your tune anytime you wanted? And how hard is it to install the ostrich, the same as putting a chip in?

It is just like installing a chip, just this chip has a ribbon cable attached.

I have mine chipped only because I have the tune down, and then we can use the ostrich in one of the other cars LOL

And as long as it is plugged in, you can continuously make changes with it. So burning a chip isn't really necessary.

Also is the ostrich big? would it require you to have the ecu open, the cover off when its installed?

The 2nd version of Ostrich (that they have listed on Moates website is very small. It almost could fit in the change holder. The 1st version is a bit smaller then the ECU itself.

The cover only needs to be off when you first put it on. Then you can put the cover back on with the Ostrich still plugged in. The ribbon from the Chip that plugs into the ECU and goes to the Ostrich is about a foot long (maybe a little less)

How much are chip burners, and I assume that this has all of the features dsmlink has
