i have a 97 talon tsi (awd):talon: and it now has 114,xxx on he motor a friend of mine suggested that i get a trany flush ### its getting a lil harder to go in to the gears, but i now know that dsm's are very sensitive so i figure i would ask you guys sins you all own them???

I use Pennzoil synchromesh in my tranny. It makes it shift alot better. If you do you synchromesh, the only downside that it gets really thin, thus making you change your oil sooner.

There are a lot of people here using different brand tranny oil. Go to the search button and look up "gear oil". The topics will give you a better understanding of what oil you want for your car. I'm sure one of the topics, if not all, will help solve your shifting problems.

Hope that helps,
Gerardo

Who are you training, and why do you want to flush them?

Oh, a tranny flush!

No need to "flush" a manual....they're relatively self-cleaning. Buy a magnetic drain bolt for piece of mind, and use Pennzoil Synchromesh (about $5.99 / qt). Change the transmission oil every time you change the motor oil.

I'm an anti-syncromesh guy. I swear by a mix of Redline MTL and MT-90. It's the only GL-4 synthetic I can find.

Thinner gear oils like syncromesh will help you with shifter feel but provide less longterm protection against shock and wear.

It's up to you to find a balance. If your trans has a billion miles on it and doesn't have plans for another billiion, syncromesh will probably be best to help with shifting. But if you have a brand new trans that has never seen the business end of a motor, you'll probably want the Redline.

And btw,
Trainee is someone who is being trained
Trany is a transvestite or a transsexual
Tranny is the common abbreviation for transmission.
Sins are things you do that Jesus told you not to do.
The only reason I know wtf you're talking about is because you're on a car forum and you mentioned gears.

Agree - Love it when I did the Redline MT-90 fluid change in my "tranny" - heard so much about how thin the other fluids were and want to keep my tranny running for quite the time and have the protection.

But why do some do a mix of fluids instead of just using the one when doing a full change?

-thx - DSM

ok thanks all the spell check in this thing messes with me, i dont think that the gear oil has ever been changed, im ganna change the oil in it and s how it shifts after that, thanks for the help:talon:

I use the penz syncromesh its ok. Be for that I used Mobil 1 LS gear oil and not even 3000 miles later using it I developed a grinding in 2nd on cold mornings and shifting was notchy [Mind you my tranny was shifted like butter before I put this in] I wanted it to stop so i switched to the penz. When I drained the Mobil it was all black. no good especially when the stuff that was in the car originally before hand came out clean with way more miles on it. [Don't use GL5 gear oil like the Mobil 1] the penz took away the grinding. but im going to swap it out again i just don't like it for some reason. I hear the cheap Coastal Gear Oil that's at Auto Zone is good in are cars and it says it's a Gl3 Gl4 and GL5 gear lube. I may try that.

Also what about Royal Purple Synchromax??? I never hear anything about it. It says it's good for yellow metals that's gotta be a good gear oil for are trannys as well then. What about there Gear Max they sell as well??? I never see any answers to any of these tranny oils I just mentioned and most people would be able to get them locally instead of ordering gear oil over the net.
