Hey guys, I'm having a weird problem with my check engine light. It is usually not on, but it has a very specific time when it pops on. Usually when I am on the highway in 5th gear and at around 3000rpm (around 60-65mph), it will turn on until I let off the gas and then it will turn off. If I am at full throttle it usually turns on in the same gear, and also in 4th gear at a slightly higher rpm. If anyone has any input I would appreciate it. Thanks for reading :).

If you have dsmlink, when the check engine light comes on you are most likely knocking in the higher gears. Its knocking only in 4th and fifth enough to make the light come on because the engine is under more load making it knock with your current tune.

I believe dsmlink is set stock to make the check engine light come on at 5 degrees of knock, so i would be careful until you get that figured out.
 
Yet, if the knock sensor is working, it would pull down the timing to prevent knock and the CEL doesn't come on if operating properly. Thus, I'm also pointing to the knock sensor is starting to fail.

I would also do the OBD-II/ECU test to see why the CEL is coming on to see which sensor is acting up.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't know if thats what I have it set for because I have done absolutely nothing as far as tuning :).

It is set to come on at 5 by default but setting it to 3 is recommended. With the mods you have listed in your profile you really should look into having it tuned properly, with that high of compression it probably is knocking and you need to address the problem before you break something. Go for a drive and log with your dsmlink and see whats going on.

He can't run his OBDII because the light goes off after he lets off. It only works if the light stays on. I think your sensor is going bad, or the previous owner had it tuned and set.
 
it should still read. If the CEL comes on the ecu will have stored the code. Pull the code, find out what it is, go from there.

If its the knock cel triggered by dsmlink than its not going to store or give a code but you can easily find out by hooking up a laptop, setting the dsmlink to log knock and go for a drive, after the cel flashes look at the log and see how many counts of knock it logged. I don't think the sensor is going bad, look at the OPs mods in his profile, he is running very high compression and a big turbo its very likely that it could be getting a lot of knock if its not tuned correctly.
