Is it possible to remove the piston by taking off the oil pan and undoing the bearing caps and pushing the piston out of the motor. I was told that it is possible to do this but it is not recommended. I have taken off the head of my 1990 Plymouth laser 2.0 turbo and one of the pistons has some buildup on the top. The valves from that piston had a lot of buildup on it and there seemed to be oil in places it shouldn't be. I will post pics tomorrow. There was quite a bit of oil in the turbo as well.....that seemed odd to me. At anyrate, please help this Newb out!!!! Thanks ya'll!

Yep it's possible but if you put new rings on you will need to hone the cylinders out which means you need to pull the engine out unless you like shavings on your crank.

Yes you can do that but its not a good idea. If some carbon is bothering you just hit the top of that piston with carb cleaner and a rag. If you pull that piston out an you dont know what your doing you could scratch the crank an i dunno if that takes away from the rings being seated in that cylinder but for some reason an im not sure that would be healthy for that bearing if you put it back together wrong an didnt clearance anything.

I would not recomend doing it that way. They have a sertan way of doing things, and when not fallowed many problems could happen then u end up back here... :( so I would do it right the 1st time and save ya self a head ace!

I was trying to do a rebuild with the block in the car this past week just like you are. But you'll realize you don't have much room to work with and you can't really get it done properly. I ended up just unbolting the mounts and pulling the transmission and block out of the car. Sent the tranny to the shop for synchro's and I seen my clutch was down to the rivets so by time I would get the thing back together, run it maybe 10,000 miles my clutch would've been out of it. Do yourself a favor and get that block out of the car. You'll have so much more room to work with it and get everything done properly. You may end up pushing out the pistons and then see that your crank needs work done to it and if that's the case then you will HAVE to pull the block out. Good luck.

Run seafoam through your engine to clean the carbon off the tops of the piston. Just search seafoam on these forums and it gives you a good how to. As for the oil it most likely is a valve seal so you should look into replacing it.

I wouldn't buy it for it's cleaning properties if any. It is also 300 dollars as to a bottle of seafoam is just 8 dollars and change at your local automotive store.
