Saskatoon,
 So I have a dilemma that requires some outside perspective of fellow Eclipse GSX owners. I have two vehicles currently, a 97 Eclipse GSX (stock) and a 93 Corrado VR6 (custom exterior mods). I do not have the money to continue to keep both of the vehicles. So I have come down to having to sell one. My dilemma is I would rather keep the eclipse but I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and if anybody has any clue about its location or climate would know the temperature ranges from -45 to +45 and there is literally tons of snow for 4-6 months a year. So basically my question is; would it be appropriate to drive my eclipse in the winter (assuming I am getting winter tires) and if you have any reason it would be appreciated if you let me know or if you think i should what changes should i make besides swtiching to 5W30 oil

If you were ok with the Corrado... you'll be in even better shape with the Eclipse. Personally I would have a truck/suv if that is the weather you'll be dealing with.

Well you came to the wrong place if you where looking for an unbiased opinion. But even so to break it down real fast. Tons of snow. awd vs fwd does'nt seem like a hard decision to me. I would definatly go with 5w30 synthetic maybe 5w20, some blizzaks , probably a 70/30 ratio on your coolant and your regular maintnance and you should be set.

Dude, Im like 6-7 hours from you the weather is no different.. KEEP THE GSX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beats owning a Honda S2000. My "S" never sees heavy rain or snow because its a death trap. Have fun with your GSX. :)

I gotta agree with everyone here. My GSX in the winter is not a problem. AWD means you can go. Now determining where you are going, that's up to your tires and your driving. I've been know to climb hills sideways in my GSX with my front wheels pointing up hill. Not a problem with getting stuck unless you put it in the ditch. I've personally been able to climb hills that even 4x4 trucks had problems.

There are things to consider with the DSM AWD setup- it's very good for iffy traction, but it's not really meant for serious 4-wheeling. You should do well in snow, except that once one end starts to slide, both probably will. Getting it back once is loses traction just might not happen.
You'll also have to consider that DSMs are low cars -2Gs the more so- and if you're up against crappy road surfaces or high berms at the edge of plowed areas, you'll probably bottom or high-center. If they use salt or similar corrosive chemicals in your area, DSMs are not strong on rust resistance, and the plastic trim panels have both through-holes for mounts and large cavities behind which will hold crap.

I would keep the GSX, its AWD and it should do well in the snow.. The only thing that sucks winter is the salt on the Rd eating the body and making it rusty... So make sure you under coated underneath :thumb:
