I'm sorry guys, I just need to do a boost leak test, and i have reviewed the threads i get when i search, but they didn't answer my questions, which are:

First of all, does the engine need to be at TDC? it seems like the valves would need to be closed for it to work.. and is it possible to do the test with a hand pump instead of a compressor?
Also, I have the stock boost gauge in place, will that be an accurate reading of intake pressure, or should i use a tire pressure gague? I don't have access to a compressor, so i thought i'd ask before trying with the pump.

Thanks for any advice, and sorry again for the newb topic :beatentodeath:

You'll need an aftermarket gauge to read the pressure. Put it 30 degrees after top dead center to make sure at least one set of valves in each cylinder will be closed. You can use a hand pump but it will probably suck bad. There's a lot of area to pressurize and that's gonna take a lot of pumping.

And searching yields wonderful results

thx for the help guys, btw i saw that article, but they were talking about a compressor, and i wanted to see if the hand pump was ok... oh, and i have a digital tire pressure gague, if i put that on the pressure tester, it should tell me the intake pressure, right? thanks again.
