Started the car for the first time in 9 months yesterday due to a huge build. Car cranks fine. On initial start-up, after it catches, I gotta pat the gas 3-4 times and then the car will idle completely on its own. It will idle at 1000, and then every 5-10 seconds it will bounce to 1500, and then fall back to 1000. Boost gauge reads -10vac. If you are driving, it is perfectly fine. Acts like a normal drive. If I clutch for a stop sign or red light, I have to pat the gas 1 time. Even the slightest of presses will keep the car alive. Then it will go right back to the 1000-1500 idle.

-10vac tells me vaccuum leak... I cannot find a vac leak anywhere.

Also, there is a crackling noise that comes from inside the engine bay...maybe a bad plugwire? It sounds like its from that general area. Would that cause it to fluctuate the way it is doing?...Or is that just the injectors?

Symptoms: -10vac; crackling noise around plugwires, initial start needs a little gas to keep it alive, clutching for stop sign/red light needs smallest of gas press to stay alive.

New cams too: FP2x's

I have a new 2g SMIM mated to a 1g TB. Here's a pic of how I have it. Let me know if you dont think it's right.

Note: Far right is capped off. To it's left is the AFPR vaccuum line. Then the next 2 is a bundle of 2 hoses that are together. One fits on the TB nipple, but one is a bit bigger. All are zip-tied tight.(Not in pic though.) I believe my idle problem may be in this area...However, there isn't any other places for those two hoses to go that I have yet to find.

+1 for boost leaks,

How far is your biss screw adjusted?

TPS has been zeroed. BISS and throttle cable have both been adjusted while car has been idling. It's adjusted to where it is now, otherwise it idles 1500+ or around 750-. So I'm pretty sure that it's right. BTW, car is set to idle at 1100.

What about Front o2? Signal seems weak. Reading like .02

As for boost leak tests, I haven't ran one yet. That step is coming closer and closer though.

We know for a fact that the front 02 is dead. I'm fairly certain the car is in closed loop during idle and this has a big effect on idle-ability.

Jake, once you change the 02 out it will be noticeably smoother. I don't doubt we have vacuum leaks. We can build a tester this weekend and go from there.
