So I bought the b16g turbo with install. After installation I went for a test drive and had something like boost spike or fuel cut. Scared the crap out of me felt like my engine went out but I got off the gas and seemed okay. I think I hooked up the waste gate wrong there is just a line to the stock bcs to the waste gate. Is this my problem and if so how do I route the lines so I can get rid of my problem? Can anyone show me pics with a manual boost controller on a 2g with a b16g upgrade?

The bottom of your MBC port goes to your J-pipe (pressure source), your side of the MBC port goes to your WG. None of those goes back to the BCS. Leave the BCS plugged in so you don't get a CEL and cap the ports off of the BCS. Are you sure you don't have a boost leak, how much psi did you hit? Sounds like your getting boost spike because of the MBC being backwards or something.

Well Ill be honest I did not understand how to hook up the wastegate and so I just had a line to the bcs there was nothing plugged into my jpipe it was just capped off. So I guess that means no pressure source to the wastegate? I actually just put the turbo in saturday and tomorrow I am going to install my boost gauge. So im not for sure how much I was boosting.

Put the line that comes out of the top of your bcs to the nipple that you capped off then keep the line that goes to the wastegate just as you had it. Get your boost gauge on now! A good mbc will be a great addition later and will replace your bcs.

ok ill will do that. I dont have a mbc on at the moment I just wanted to have stock boost untill I got a boost gauge. But, apperently I had all the hoses hooked up wrong so let me get this straight I have one line going to the J-pipe to the bcs then a line from the bcs to the wastegate? So this means that I had no pressure source to my waste gate meaning I was over boosting which enabled my fuel cut? How bad is this for my car?

First thing tomorrow I will hook up my boost gauge. I do not have a mbc I will look for one tomorrow. I just need to know how to hook it up to the stock pieces I have.

Just rune a line from your jpipe to your wastegate. That will run "stock, or below stock, boost". Do not do anything else until you get a boost gauge. You do not need your bcs hooked up. Just leave it tucked away in your engine bay somewhere. Do not unplug the electrical plug to it though.

Thanks web connect I will do that. So a MBC will go in between that line right? In between the wastegate and the j-pipe right?

I personally would hook the bcs up until you have an mbc, it will gain you a couple psi and keep you in the safe range. A boost gauge is too important to be without though, don't even drive it until you know what your boost is going to. As for damage to your car from overboosting, if you only did it a couple times and the car still seems fine then you are probably ok but to continue to do it will destroy your engine.

Correct. The bottom line goes to your J-pipe and the line on the side goes to your wastegate. It's pretty simple. Don't complicate yourself.
Wrong. Do not hook up the bcs. Nothing goes between the j pipe and the wastegate. If something does, you will get more boost. Which will hurt your engine.

Wrong again. Stock boost is ~12-13 psi. You can mess things up on a 16g if you have no logger or boost gauge. All it takes is one misplaced vacuum line and he will overboost.

Just run a line from the jpipe to the wastegate until you get the proper tools.

If he is not going to hook up the BCS what is going to control his boost? Nothing. Stock boost is only 7-8 psi not 12-13. He will see that if he hooks it up the BCS and then has the boost gauge hooked up it will read between 7-8 I left mine like that for a year or so. We are saying when he does install the MBC that it will go between the J-pipe and Wastegate. Bottom of MBC is pressure source which goes to your J-pipe and the side goes to your WG. But not until after he hooks up the boost gauge.

ok fellas I did what you said first installed the boost gauge then I routed a line from the j-pipe to the wastegate. I am now boosting 9psi. Which I believe is stock. Thanks for all your help my car is running great now. My manual boost controller comes in tomorrow. what is a safe boost level for my car? I have heard 13psi.

The wastegate spring will control boost. Which will be around 8-9 lbs. I believe stock boost is anywhere from 10-13 lbs running on stock bcs.

A wiseman said he logged 120% injector duty at 12lbs on a small 16g. So, until you get a logger, nothing above 8-9 lbs is safe. Sorry man.

DSMlink sounds like a very good option. I still have heard that you can run more boost just nothing past 14psi.

Using the stock bcs should be perfectly safe as long as you have a boost gauge which I told him was absolutely a must have. Even as high as 13 psi should be perfectly safe for even a stock car, something to look into though is an upgraded fuel pump which will allow most cars to run up to 15 psi safely.

If you want an idea of whats safe and what isn't go here.

For safety I would suggest using at least 2psi less than the chart recommends if you don't have a logger but 13 psi is still clearly within the range of safety. Keep in mind that the flow characteristics of a 16g are fairly similar to those of a 14b at low boost.

Thanks the mork! You have been the most help yet. Everyone else just seems to complain while some of us are trully trying to be educated. I am very thankful:thumb:
