ok so I had to take my brand new evo16g turbo apart to retap a new thread for the oil feed line in the center housing.. Then I took apart the center housing to clear out any stray metal filings just in case.

Now I'm ready to put the thing back together and I have a major problem.. When i tighten the screw at the end of the compressor wheel the shaft locks up in the housing. I swear I'm putting it together right but I need to talk to someone who's taken one of these apart before so I know if I'm missing a washer or something, or maybe the peices are in backwards, I can't figure this out.

Heres a pic of the pieces I have and the arrangment I'm putting them in.

Your parts are all in the correct order.

Make sure the angled portion of the oil deflector is fitting into the gap at the bottom of the thrust plate.

Another thing to check is that the oil shield on the compressor side is fully seated against the center housing, the tapered side of the snap ring is facing OUT, and the snap ring is fully locked into the groove.

Looks like you have it all there but make sure when reassymbling it you have a good assymbly oil or stabilizer!
Also make sure the thrust HAT's smooth side is against the compressor bearing and that the piston rings (both comp and turbine) gaps are faced towards the oil inlet when installed!
Because installed any other way will result in the turbo leaking!

thanks for the help all, finally got it together I had to flip around some of the small pieces and tightened it down and it spins freely (tho maybe not as freely as when I first got it). I decided to go with it, finally got it all together and went for my first test drive.

At first I had no boost, but I noticed I forgot to put the kotter pin back in the wastegate arm LOL, and that also gave the turbo a chance to oil up. Put the pin back in and so far it boosts great and spools pretty quick, and after an hour drive no leaks or smoke just a weird rattle from under the car but I'll look at that tomorrow.

At one point I though I blew the turbo but I guess my makeshift abs intercooler piping popped a coupler, and the car stalled.

Shouldn' that turbo have been re balanced after you took it apart?

Sometimes you can make a center mark on the impeller wheel and shaft, to realign it in the same spot it was in originally. However I would still suggest getting it balanced by a reputable shop.

Why? I don't see how he damaged the wheels in any way.

If the wheels weren't marked from the factory, then there's no way Mitsubishi knew how to align the compressor wheel on the shaft either.

They do not come marked by MHI!!
You would have to mark it with a scribe or some sort of tool as a marker would wipe off!

If it was new then no i he doesnt have to rebalance it but if it was reman or just if he replaced the comp wheel or both then yes he should have it rebalanced!
