VACUUM LEAK? OK so i bought a 96 eclipse GST with a blown motor for $1,300. Since the rebuild and new parts I have about $3,800 total in the car. I got a another block and had a shop do a rebuild. I also got new radiator, crank shaft sensors, and alot more. The car came with the B16 turbo and exhaust. Any ways i got it back from the shop and will not pass emissions. CEL light came on and had it checked.

The codes read that it couls be "Possible vacuum leak" 'AIC valve or motor'
AIC = Air Idle Control Valve
So me and my dad tested the AIC valve and it functioned. But that ended up getting replaced because the old plastic decided to break.

Also when we were working on the car i noticed that the dumb mechanic left the hose off of my EGR valve. so i put it back on. My dad sprayed and cleaned the throttle body. I bought a new filter. And one by one i replaced the vacuum lines that i could get to because codes read possible vacuum leak..

AFTER ALL THIS WAS DONE I WOULD START THE CAR AND IT WOULD IDLE FUNNY. RPMs RANGING FROM 750 TO 1250. SO I DROVE THE CAR 20 MILES TO TRY AND RUN THE CLEANER THROUGH.

COULD IT BE A EGR VALVE PROBLEM OCCURING AFTER I HOOKED UM THE HOSE TO THE VALVE? COULD IT BE MY MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR?

WHAT COULD BE THE PROLEM? PLEASE HELP ME I WANT TO DRIVE HER

Try to see if anyone you know has a spare mass air flow sensor around. Once you start the car twice it should clear the code automatically if the mass air flow is bad. That should help you get a little closer to the solution.

The RMPs never jumped until cleaning everything and hookin up the EGR valve. isnt there a way of eliminating the mass air flow sensor? i have seen alot of DSMs with out them? THANKS

I have been meaning to remove my MAS as well. What you are referring to is a GM MAS, which removes the restrictive factory one, and installs a GM better flowing one closer to the engine to get more accurate readings. Search for it and you will get a lot of results. If I needed to replace my MAS I would do the GM MAS swap as well.

Thanks thats one thing i want done to my car so i can run a cold air intake and intake drop down pipe things LOL But 100% about cold ait tho. It hardly rains in AZ so dont have to worry about water too much. But its also very hot here. What do u think?

I haven't really seen that done, since it might not be necessary if you are running a good intercooler. Although I know what you mean about Arizona weather, you can use all the extra cold air you can get :D I don't see why not, as long as you understand the hazards that may come with a cold air intake.

But as far as your original problem I would recommend swapping the mas with another one to see if it helps. I would check for vaccum leaks (they will make a hisssing sound and in my car are responsible for 90% of bad idling). If that still doesn't work recheck all the basics like plugs/wires (even if they are newer), injector seals, etc... It's probably something small.
