NA 4g63 Maximum HP?

I dont think anyone really knows because every car is different, you really wanna know
put the mods on your car then have it dynoed. Just my opinon.

Why??? With all the "internal mods" you can build an engine that will be able to take turbo. If you want to go as crazy as a 12:1 compression ratio pistons and some cams and better intake and exhaust manifold, you still won't see anything better than 280 at the wheels (if it's even possible for a 4G63 to get there in the NA form)

The answer is no one knows, because as far as I know, no one has ever really made an attempted at building a race 4g63. You could try, but this isn't the Honda aftermarket with a bunch of differet companies selling N/A specific camshafts, ITB's, etc. You would basically be where the Honda community was 10 if not more years ago.

You'd need to get the right head porting, intake manifold, cams, and you should be able to get some power if you don't care about torque at all. Go higher than 12:1 compression. 13:1+? Go E85, that will help a little. Pretty much anyone with even a 16g on a stock engine will rape you though, and for a lot less money.

I just wanted some numbers. I am comparing cars to make into a racecar. I can use anything front or rear wheel drive, 4 cylinder or rotary, and less than a 103.5 inch wheelbase.

I am really pushing towards a 1985 RX7 though. I will be able to get about 220hp out of stock internals and stock ports. :)

I'll give you $1000 if you get 185whp out of a n/a 4g63

You're going to max out at about 165whp with major modifications. You might be special and get 175 to the wheels. You could go with ITB's to get above 200, but at that price you might as well go turbo.

A friend told me once that Racing Performance Works (RPW Australia) ran a N/T 4G63 Elantra time ago, it had about 190whp, most parts were custom made they said. They ditched that because the pick-up on the motor was garbage, so they swapped to turbo and took a huge loss on funds. I think that says it all. Crazy Aussies and 2700hp Celsiors....

Not too long ago I found a pretty detailed (but old)thread about how to get close to 200 hp from an NT. I don't remember what it was titled. Sorry. Search hard?
It was mostly about head-work, porting, big valves, 5-angle valve seats, intake and exhaust work, cams. It stated about 200whp w/o nitrous. Total possibility with the right cams.
kahl23 is totally right about there simply not being any performance parts available for 1g NA cars. Just turbo kits.

I know what it takes to get a naturally aspirated 2L 16v, that has 130hp (@ 117whp) stock, to have 190whp... and the answer is lots of money and lots of time.

Since he's asking the question here, I highly doubt the OP will spend what it takes to get beyond 160whp (a difficult number to go beyond), not to mention the amount of work involved, it's a little easier to go turbo to get any real numbers. So that's why I say I'd give him a grand.

If anyone wants a list of things needed to build a non-turbo 2L with 170-220whp, LMK

I will admit, though, N/A four-bangers with big power are a blast to drive.... satisfying in different ways than turbo

Hey why didn't I think of that?
If you do this, I withdraw my offer..... Nitrous is the easiest way to acheive your goals, but I'm not sure if that's still considered "naturally aspirated". I personally wouldn't use nitrous on anything but a race car.

I would say go for it, drop as much weight as possible, stroker with 11 to 1 pistons and a sick head with some custom cams.

wow i cant belive some of these replys, honeslty i like to be differnt some times to
when i tell people my ideas i get the same replys to. but if i were u i would buy a vtec
honda, ### for me i gotta have turbo or vtec or it drives me crazy with out somthing to look forward to in the rpms! :dsm::dsm::dsm:

wouldnt you want to go with a higher compression than that? when i was in the honda game i saw kids running 13:1 and running in the 12 sec 1/4 mile :thumb:

might as well go 12:1 and run premium gasoline, run 272's or larger with cam gears (to adjust for n/a), then lighten up the crank and flywheel and tune the fuel.. I don't want to "bench race" but that would bring you somewhere between 140-155whp

You can go 13:1 if your gas station sells 93 octane, but your roaming into sketchy territory at that compression... and you could run into issues. Without Honda's (miraculous?) timing, it's much safer to stay near 12:1 c/r.

im gonna try to find this kids build i saw awhile back, i think he ended up putting down 186whp. sounds about right. and in this case weight reduction is gonna be your best friend!

Is nitrous N/A? I didn't know, I actually would like to know, if you guys don't mind to chime in. :)
