hey. I have a 1992 eclipse gs and i am having some trouble with it. When the engine gets warm and i throw it into neutral to coast, my engine will try to stay alive and idle at 600 rpms and then die. Car idles fine at a stop. I have a year old battery in it, just put a new altenator in it and a new fuel filter. I also put in another mafs and it still does the same thing. The weird thing is if i unplug the mafs, then my car will run fine with no problems. i do get a Check engine light becasue of it. I am stumpped! Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

whats your idle after the car is at operating temp and in nuetral just sitting there? try turning idle up a little bit then take for drive and see what happens.

at operating temp, the car idles at about 1000 to 1100 rpms. I have been messing around with it and when i set the idle higher it seems to not die as often when i throw it into nuetral.

o and i have a 160 dgree thermostat in my car and ever since i have put that in i cant find why my fan motor is always on.

its possible you have air trapped in the system let it idle for a while with the cap off and keep it full til it stops going down

My question is why would you want to in the first place? If it idles fine at a stop then I would say not to worry about trying to coast.

i would like to have the ablity of being able to coast down a big hill without my engine dying on me. would running without my mafs hurt my computer or car in anyway?

hey, thanks for all the advice. i started to test all my components, like tps, isc and when i put them back in, my car ran great. so maybe it was just a dirty or loose connector.
