I'm looking to make my GVR4 a little faster without breaking the bank. Here's what I have:

Installed:
ETS FMIC/piping
Walbro 255
Fidanza 3.2 clutch
TRE Trans
Suspension mods that aren't really relevant to the car's ability to make or withstand more power.

Uninstalled/on order:
RC 550cc injectors
Stewart Warner boost gauge
TurboXS 0-30 psi boost controller
APEX'i S-AFC NEO

The car still has a 14b and stock exhaust. Here are my questions:

1. Is there anything else I need to buy to bolt this stuff on and start making power without breaking the car? I don't wanna half-ass this.

2. Are there any significant differences between an S-AFC NEO and the same S-AFC that everyone's been using for years? Is it any harder or easier to tune? Is it any less compatible with a DSM/GVR4?

3. I was thinking of just putting an electric cut-out on it with a stock exhaust, so it can still sound pretty civilized if I don't wanna drive like an asshole. Is that a bad idea or likely to cause mechanical failure? Why or why not?

You'll need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to control your fuel pressure after installing that larger pump. Aeromotive makes a nice one that many DSM'ers have found success with.

The afc noe is easy to tune but apexi has had a bit of a problem with them on cars that use a karmen maf sensor. Im not sure if thats what yours uses but i know thats what a 2g does and im assuming your will also. They were suspossed to have an update but i dont know when. Heres a link that will explain the problem. And also like stated above you will probally need a afpr to go with your 255 fuel pump because you will more than likely over run your stock one

See if you have an eprom ecu because you can get it socketed and chipped for your setup or dsmlink. If really want to go the SAFC route you can find one used for cheap from those that went with dsmlink. You should go with bigger injectors like 650cc or larger.

Does anyone know if that's ever been fixed? It looks like the OP was in contact with APEX'i about this in May, and they seemed to be working towards a fix. However, there's no confirmation that it was ever fixed.

Also, do I need a wideband oxygen sensor?

I know DSMlink is the right way to do this, but I work for an APEX'i distributor, so I can get one at less than half the price of DSMLink. If we were talking full retail, I'd just get link.

Will 550's be too small on a 14b? I heard they'd be ok until I stepped up to a 16G.

problem is this...bigger the injector...harder it is to control it with ## AFC. when and if the day comes that you decide to step up to a bigger turbo, wouldnt you like to just only upgrade the turbo, and not have to upgrade the injectors too?
if you have link, or a socketed eprom, injector size will be no problem...it can make almost any size run like stock.(plus i like that ### the less stuff thats in my car, the less people will try and steal it)
also, if you work for an apexi distributor, im sure you can get catback and dp for dirt cheap as well. why not do that, and get a muffler that doesnt make a whole lot of noise. on top of that, look @ an o2 housing to finish your turbo back. I love my ebay style 2.5 in recirc, but alot of people may or may not like that...

just my .02 for now...

I had just sent my neo back last month and they still didnt have the fix for it but said they would in about a week, but from other reports they have been saying that for awhile. But you could contact them or just email them and ask if they have fixed the problem.

I think I might just bite the bullet and get link.

I drive a GVR4, so I don't think APEX'i makes one for my car.

Does your car have a eprom ecu? If you don't it would be cheaper to just run the safc 2. Also look at how far you want to go with the car.

id say either do link or a chip. my ecu is chipped and i LOVE it. i dont like doing a whole lot of tuning and fumbling around. my chip had basically all my mods tuned for it directly to my ecu....the car was chirping third...idled and ran like stock until i decided to get on it...after that on anything i drive and start to upgrade im just doing a chip...
