hey guys im looking to buy some ross pistons and i found a guy selling them. The car has been started up and driven, but no further than 10 miles. The problem that im having is that all of the pictures i see of ross pistons are really shiny and even the used ones still have a shine to them. These just dont look the same as ross pistons. Am i being paranoid?

Here are the pistons im talking about

It could be a coating that wears off over time??
or could it be an uncoated version of there pistons?

**and yes i know one of them has been damaged!**

... i understand what your saying but its only one piston damaged, if these are indeed ross pistons then i can order a single replacement piston for much cheaper than buying a whole set.

Back to my question. Are these ross pistons?

I don't what you have in mind of the power you're trying to get but you'd be better off with stock pistons than damages ones.

+1 i Agree stock wore out is better than not stock damaged ones.:notgood::talon:

and i would say that they dont look like the ross pistons. but idk they may be a unpolished version.

guys i know that they kissed the valves and all that, im not buying them to put them directly onto my car i will be replacing the damaged one. Only one of the pistons have valve contact. Please just give me your opinons or evidence that ross makes a coated verson or something that looks like this. Im well aware of the fact that stockers are better than damaged ones peroid.

To turbotsithatfly, thats what im thinking but i was hoping to find out for sure if these are infact a uncoated verson of ross pistons. Do you have any pictures of a "new" piston from ross that looks like this. I searched and i couldnt find it. also if you look they have the exact same shape and forms as the ross pistons that are new. Its just the way that they look thats bothering me.

hmmm ok thanks for searching for me! Its interesting that slowboy and extreme have different pictures but the part numbers are the same. im guessing that extreme's is a general picture seeing as they have it for all the pistons.

I will most likely as the seller for a picture of the box they came in, the only problem is it very easy to get one of those off of google and say its yours...

well heres a bit more proof that they are ross pistons what do you guys think...

As for if these are real, I found the auction of the seller on eBay doesn't this means anything to you?

I clearly see Ross imprinted there.

There in lies the problem... its ebay! I have forced myself to 2nd and 3rd guess what is on there due to bad experiances. Idk i guess im just being paranoid. It was just that the pictures ive seen of ross pistons looked so far from what these look like i was suspicious.

Thank you so much for helping.

Just to let you now replacing that one piston won't be as easy as it sounds. Most if not all piston company's weigh the pistons and try to combine those that are like in weight. You would have to measure the weight of all the pistons and tell ross, then they would try to match it for you. Also all ross pistons have ross in them. Ask them if they are coated.

Edit:also if he kissed the valve the coating should have fallen off a little and you should be able to see a shine. Not visible in this picture.

Contact the seller and have him take a picture of the bottom of the piston. That way you can verify that they are indeed ross pistons. It's really hard to tell from the pictures what they are. They could even be cast topline pistons for all we know. Also, if you do indeed buy them please do not reuse those rings that would be ridiculously retarded.

To above poster, yes of course i would replace the rings. Also this is EXACTLY what im thinking that they are, they look the same except the topline are darker on the top than on the bottom. Even though i know they arent topline (topline has 2 holes by the wristpin). thanks for the tip

Hmm ok im guessing if there was a variation in the one piston i would spin bearings all the time in that cylinder and eventually ruin the rod. Thanks for letting me know that theres a ton of things they dont teach you in automotive tech school!

Well... the best way is the pay by PayPal and it is goes south from there PayPal will take care of the refund and do the investigation with the seller.
